East West Goliath - Solo Violins No sound

Hi,

I am using SONAR Platinum version 21.7.00, and running on Windows 8 64 bit.

I am having a peculiar issue while using the EWQL VSTs.

Not sure if anyone experiences this problem: Everytime you load a new sound, the first few seconds the notes sound crisp, but after that it gets filtered off. But when you disable the filter (for resonance and frequency) the crispiness comes back again. But everytime another sound is loaded, this filter gets enabled by default and you have the scenario where first few seconds the notes sound clear and crisp before getting filtered again.

This problem is a small one - one just needs to disable the filter each time.

However, when I load up the Solo Violin (both aggressive and medium) from EWQL Goliath, the first few seconds I can hear the violin voice. Shortly after, I get absolute silence - not even a filtered voice. I played around with the filter, the mute/solo/ADSR/reverb/ADT etc. essentially all the buttons on the Play GUI, but there is still no sound.

I know it's not that the sounds are not installed properly. I can hear them clearly for the first few seconds upon activating the voice before it gets "silenced". Also, I can see the bar lights up whenever I hit a key. Under the info I can also see the number of voices activated whenever I hit the notes, together with the memory usage. I can also be sure that the channel is selected and is not muted in any way.

This perplexing problem only happens on the solo violins. All other voices perform fine. I am not sure if the issue is the same as the "filtering" issue mentioned in the previous paragraph.

If anyone has light to shed on this issue I'd be really grateful.

Thanks for the help in advance

You might want to try turning off Zero Controllers When Play Stops under Project MIDI in the Preferences.  It causes Sonar to send control messages to everything and if any of those messages are being used to control a filter/whatever it will change them.  Drove me nuts with some Kontakt instruments by zeroing filters and cutting out all the sound.

Note this option is per project, so if you want to set it for everything you need to change your templates and remember to edit it on every old project.

thanks for the reply msorrels. I managed to resolve it by

1) turning off zero controllers when play stops like you said, then
2) bring Down the mod wheel to zero

Apparently there is only sound when the mod wheel is zero for that patch.

I have one more related question; do you know if it is possible to not read the mod wheel position during playback? I have certain sounds where my mod wheel is recorded turned up, for example. But during playback my mod wheel position is in the middle, and I can see the constant reading of the mod wheel vs the recorded mod wheel position causing the mod wheel to frequently bounce between the middle and up position. Currently I work around by disabling my midi controller temporarily during playback.

Thanks in advance!

I think what you want to do is turn off the Input Echo on that track you are playing back.  You can toggle it with the icon on the track (looks kind of like a dot with some waves coming off it).  If you don't have that on (or on Auto) then your MIDI devices signals won't be sent through to that track.  I turned off the auto input echo and then turn it on for the tracks I actually need it.  But that might kill your workflow, it took me a little while to get used to having to remember to toggle it on in order to use my keyboard with a softsynth
