EastWest soft synth plugin in Sonar Platinum can't acess ASIO Setting for RME - RESOLVED!

I play a custom Kasha classical guitar output to Sonar Platinum via RMC piezo pickups.
Prior to this current setup I had everything working together several few years a go with Sonar 8 on a Dell laptop running Windows 7 .  However, the Dell was constantly overheating, the fan came on constantly and there wasn't enough RAM.

So, I bought the ASUS because of more power, better cooling, and more RAM... but it came with OS 8.1.

What I can do:
I am able to use the built-in Soft Synths that come bundled with Sonar Platinum without a problem connecting to my RME's ASIO drivers.
I am also able to use EastWest software products in standalone mode using the EastWest PLAY engine with my RME's ASIO drivers.

PROBLEM:
I am trying to use EastWest soft synths (e.g., Goliath, EWSO) as plugins within Sonar Platinum.

Sonar Platinum allows me to insert "Play" (the EastWest engine)  as a VST soft synth .
So, I have a soft synth track showing.
The EastWest soft synth, e.g., "Goliath", will show audio levels when a MIDI file is put into it's track, but no sound is heard.
That's because the EastWest soft synth cannot connect to the ASIO driver of the RME Fireface UCX.
Clicking on the "SETTINGS" tab inside EastWest "Goliath", brings up the Sonar "Settings" window as it should.  However, the Audio Settings in that window are empty and all grey'd out.   So, I've been stuck trying to get these great plugins to work again in Sonar...

First, EastWest products work fine in the current version of Sonar. Make sure you have updated Play to the current version as well. Second, since most EW libraries, as well as Play itself, are multi-timbral, you should load it into the synth rack and simply point midi tracks set to the channel you want to use. Then you can load several libraries, or multiple articulations in a single instance, each on it's own channel. Third, when running Play inside of Sonar, you cannot adjust any ASIO settings through Play. Instead, Sonar must be set to use the appropriate interface and bit rate settings. This is a per project setting:

Make sure your interface is set to the correct bit rates as well.

    Hi Dan,
Hmmm, Not sure what I'm doing incorrectly...
I had already been using the latest version of Play 4.3.4.
Here are my Sonar preference settings:

    Audio
"Devices" shows the ASIO Fireface as the input and output drivers
         Driver Settings: (these are correct)
                Audio Driver Bit depth: 24bit
                sample rate: 44100 ,
         Mixing Latency
Buffers in Playback Quest: 2 (this is grey'd out, unchangeable)
Buffer Size : 23.2 msec, 1024 samples. (but I can modify this via the ASIO Panel)
        Playback and Recording
               Driver Mode:  ASIO
               Dithering:  Rectangular
         Sync and Caching
               Record Latency Adjustment
Device: ASIO Fireface USB (9in. 9out)

    MIDI
Devices:  UCX Midi Port 1 and UCX Midi Port2  (both Inputs and Outputs)

I have the MIDI track output set to use EastWest's "Play" which is in the Synth Rack.
I see levels showing on the MIDI track but hear no audio.
Whereas, the same MIDI track will give yield audible results when set to use any of Sonar's bundle soft synths like TTS-1, TruePianos...

Within the Synth rack, I can double click on "Play" to bring up the EastWest Goliath player.
I can load an instrument (e.g., "Cellos Legato MOD") but clicking on the Goliath keyboard gives no sound.
As I'd mentioned previous, click on Goliath's "Settings" tab (at upper left next between "Menu" and "Mixer") brings up the Settings Window of Goliath with everything grey'd out   The test tone button toggles off and on but no sound is heard. The "ASIO Settings..." button is grey'd out.
Whereas, running Play as a standalone, Goliath works fine...

    kind of stumped...

Re: EastWest soft synth plugin in Sonar Platinum can't acess ASIO Setting for RME Fireface 2016/04/14 08:17:48 (permalink)
Like I said above, you cannot adjust Play's audio settings when you are running as a VST, which is why the ASIO button is grayed out. Can you hear audio using a different VST inside Sonar?

Check the audio track that Play is using and make sure the output is set to Master, and that the Master bus is output to your Fireface. Also, make sure that the Fireface is set to the same bit depth as Sonar is expecting (24/44.1).

Finally, bring up the Fireface Totalmix mixer and see if signal is getting to the mixer and that the internal routing is correct.

If Sonar can play audio through the Fireface and you can hear it, any VST should be able to through Sonar as well, unless the VST is broken. Play is not broken.

If Sonar can't play any audio at all through the Fireface, then you have a problem with the Fireface. It could be something simple, like Windows hijacked the interface.

    Regards,
    Dan

Oh, and if you see signal on the midi track, you also need to see signal on the audio track that the synth is using for output. If you don't see any signal there, then it may be a configuration issue with your Play instrument. You can try moving the MOD wheel up to see if the instrument is silent because volume is set to zero.

Got it to work now.  It was the audio track output that was the problem. Thanks!
