Edirol for Orchestral settings

I've recently started using Edirol with SONAR 8.5.  It seems very easy to use and has nice sounds.  I'm not a MIDI expert but in the past when I've used a program like this I could select the instrument sound I wanted to my MIDI keyboard to play.  I would then record it and whenever I reopened the tune in SONAR it remembered my instrument.

In Edirol I have been selecting the instrument I want on MIDI channel 1 and I can hear and record it just fine.  When I close the song and reopen it it reverts to the orginal MIDI channel 1 instrument (flute vibrato).   I then have to reset it again.  I'm sure it's ignorance on my part but can someone please tell me the easiest way to have Edirol remember the instrument I want associated with MIDI channel 1 each time I reopen the song?  (I actually have 3 string tracks so I currently have to reset each of them every time).  I'm using a M-Audio KeyRig 49.

Thanks.

You may have patch change data inserted in the tracks. You can check to see if you have patch changes inserted in the Event List View. And if you want a track to use a certain patch you can insert your own patch changes using the Insert Bank/Patch Change menu command. Make sure you insert it at the very beginning of the project, or at least before the midi data on the track starts playing. You can also have a track change banks/patches during a song using the same menu command.

If you insert patch change data on a track you can set the patch in the Track Inspector (above the slider) to None.

Edirol what? VSC? That's old. Use the TTS-1 instead.

Sounds like Svenmonet is talking about the Edirol Orchestral VST, which is old, but still sounds great.  And I've noticed the same thing with it, that instrument re-assignments aren't maintained when you re-open a project.  It hasn't hampered me though, since I bounce to audio as soon as I can.

It is an older VST version.  I can freeze the synth and keep the settings that way or mix to audio.  It's just not fun if you want to try different settings frequently.  I can try a newer version but I would be interested in any other orchestration programs that people prefer.  Edirol doesn't sound bad with the string settings  but the woodwinds and brass don't sound as good.  I very open to suggestions especially programs that work well with SONAR 8.5.   Maybe their newer versions sound better?

I used Edirol Orchestral for a very long time. Still do, once and a while just for layering. You can not beat the deal in the Cakewalk store for Garritan Personal Orchestra 4. I bought it there. It is light years ahead of Orchestral! The purchase is kind of convoluted. You buy at Cake, then proceed to Garritan's website to download and register. Kind of tedious, but, the install is fast and smooth as silk. I have had absolutely no problems whatsoever in Sonar X1! This is one of the best, affordable plugs you will ever buy. Get it now if you can. I will get the link for you. Again, if you can afford it, it is the best buy you will ever get!

http://www.store.cakewalk.com/b2cus/category.aspx?categoryID=47 Look for Garritan Personal Orchestra 4 Elite. A MUST-HAVE. I do a lot of Orchestral mock ups and believe me, it's hard to beat. FWIW, No, it is not as powerful as some of your high end libraries, but, for the price, it is essential.
