Edit An Automation Envelope - I give up, how do I do it?

I have a clip with a pan envelope.  I want to go back on it and change the nodes and lines.  'Help' says double click with various tools - but they all result in the Loop Construction view opening.  Help is patently wrong.  I've just wasted 15 minutes trying everything, right click, God knows what.  As someone has already said, X1 is so counter-intuitive it's unbelievable.  Not once during the last painflu week of 'learning' have I found myself saying "Wow, that makes sense."
So, can somebody please put me out of my misery and tell me the obscure route I need to adopt (and try and memorise) that will enable me to edit this pan envelope?

Thanks
John

Did you select automation in the clips filter on the track header? It is the drop down menu that says clips on it.

    Pan should be there.

You could use the smart tool too.

You can set a track to different "view modes". As default it's set to "clip" and this will let you drag and edit the clips. To edit envelopes you have to set it to "Automation". To do this just select the envelope you want to edit from the drop down menu next to the "input echo" button.

Double-clicking only works to get out of an automation edit mode and back to clip edit mode, otherwise yah it'll open the Loop Construction view...a place where I don't think I ever go unless it's a mistake.

In the widgets area there's a dropdown where you can edit pan automation edit mode. Actually you can enter ANY edit mode from there, so get used to using it!

Just select the automation want to enter (track pan envelope or clip pan envelope) and everything else will dim and you'll be able to envelope edit to your heart's content.

Oh crap you're right, double-clicking won't effect edit modes at all in either direction. Whoops!

Sorry for the brevity. I've given up typing long explanations 'cos a lot of the time the question is asked just so someone can then rant on about how much harder it is than trying to navigate several envelopes pre-X1 or how hard holding shift or another modifier is 'cos they need their left hand free to do what I know not, no one's ever said, but you get the jist..........

Of course my apologies to the OP if they are not in that category................

any one notice as of X1 we can now group envelopes across multiple tracks?

If you Ctrl+click multiple envelopes, hold either Shift or Ctrl, will allow all selected envelope to be moved around in a "group" across multiple tracks.

I found that holding Shift with multiple automation envelopes keeps them in "sync" vertialy, and Ctrl holds the "horizontal" of the envelope.

I hope that makes sense. basically select envelopes on different tracks, hold Ctrl or Shift and all envelopes selected will move.

I can't tell you what a great surprise this was to find out, my mixing world just changed, I have wanted this function for so long.

Thought I would share this bit of really cool functionality I just discovered in X1

I was beginning to wonder what the left hand was needed for. I hear it often and left to the imagination...... well you know..... glad you've cleared up that mystery for me.

WHOA. That is cool and useful and I'm kind of surprised a bigger deal has not been made of it. Excellent and highly welcome function, thanks for drawing attention to it!

Yeah that is handy. I could've sworn I'd tried this before in X1 and it didn't work. Maybe it sneaked in one of the patches or more likely I was just doing it wrong.

Thanks for that! Very cool! Pro Tools has had this for, like, 12+ years... one of the things I really missed when I moved to Sonar. So glad to have it back, now (or at least a version of it)!
