Edit velocities for selected notes in PRV velocity pane X2
Hi there, I am a little confused with the Velocity pane in the PRV. I have a drum track - Kick Snare and Hat. There is considerable overlap of notes. I want to lift out the snare a little - in one go, and I like to freehand the velocity a little. I swear I used to select the snare on the left hand side which would in turn select all the snare notes in the PRV. A this point I could draw i the prv velocity pane, and only the velocities of the selected notes would be affected. Now when I do this, all notes are effected. Am I doing something wrong or is a change? Cheers Grif

Now when I do this, all notes are effected. Am I doing something wrong or is a change? It does appear this has changed; I checked 8.5, and it did work that way. And I'm not seeing any ways around it right offhand. I thought Show Velocity Only for Selected Notes would do the trick, but with the Controllers Pane open, it only shows velocity while you're actually holding left-click on a note. And since you cant draw controllers in the notes pane, it doesn't help that Show Only Selected works there. There have been so many PRV editing changes over the last few versions, I can't keep up, especially given that I don't work in the PRV that extensively. But it does seem this might be an oversight in the intended functionality, if not an actual bug.

Daft thing is I totally remember dong it that way. Thanks though - it is a starting point Cheers Grif

If you use the draw tool in the Velocity pane you should be able to draw in velocity. I can.

if you have overlapping notes and want to adjust only selected ones you can do it in the controller pane but once you select the notes you need to hold the alt key while drawing to effect ONLY the selected notes and not any of the other notes that fall in that time range. when i do drums, i like to click say the hi-hat row, which will select all hi-hat notes, and then alt+draw in the velocity pane. sorry if i explained this all ass-backwards. :/

John - I was able to edit velocities sin the velocity pane - what I was missing was a way to only edit velocities for selected notes. Once I conform this I'll mark it solved. Thanks to all for your responses. Cheers Grif

Using the Smart tool... - Select notes. - Hold Alt - Draw velocities in Controller pane. Hey, Scott, that works but I'll be danged if I can find that documented in the X2 Reference Guide. Do you have a page reference? Also, on page 692, it says (and shows screenshots of): To only show velocity for selected note events Click the Piano Roll view Notes menu and choose Show Velocity on Selected Notes Only. [snip] "Selection sensitive velocity drawing If any Note events are selected, velocity painting will only affect those selected Note events. If no Note events are selected, then velocity painting will affect all Note events." The screenshots show this working in the PRV note pane, but I am not seeing what they show. When I have Show Velocity on Selected Notes Only enabled, I don't see velocity on any notes, selected or otherwise, except when I click and hold on a single note, or paint with the Ctrl key held down (which is documented on page 452, conveniently right next door to page 692 ), at which point they magically appear as my cursor crosses the start time of a selected note, but then disappear again when I release the mouse button. Do I have a unique graphics problem here, or is that working for you?

I open a clip in the PRV with Controller pan showing velocities. If I turn on the Show Velocity on Selected Notes Only and then select some notes, I only see velocities for those notes. After I remove the selection, all velocities are shown again. Scott -- Scott R. Ferret out is right! the description for the ALT-drag operation in that table is "[ALT] Click or drag to insert new events (Piano Roll Controller Pane only)". I consider myself to be a fairly accomplished Reference Guide searcher, but it would never have occurred to me to search on "insert new events" to learn how to "draw selected velocities only". Even staring right at it, there's no hint that it would work with velocities in this way. As for the issue with "Show Velocity on Selected Notes Only". That appeared to be working when I tested just now (after rebooting this morning), but the I found that if I switch to the regular "Show Velocity" mode and back to "Selected Notes Only", it will not work correctly when I return to it. Definitely looks like a bug.

I'm very meticulous, which is a blessing when doing this kind of work. Although, sometimes it's a curse because it takes me longer to get my work done. swamptooth hey scott - have you found the magic key combo with smart tool that mutes notes yet??? the manual say alt+right click a note with smart tool but that just deletes notes for me. Hey Arvid... no, they either changed that key combo (and left mute out) or it's a bug. But there's an easy workaround... since the Erase tool is already available via the Smart Tool, I just keep my Erase button (in the Control Bar) set to the Mute tool. Then when I want to quick switch to the Mute tool and back to Smart, I just press and hold F10, mute some notes, then let go of F10 to automatically switch back to Smart. How's that for a nice tip? Another one that will be in the book... although, maybe I need to stop sharing now or no one will buy it. Scott -- Scott R.
