Editing Session Drummer3 kit file Problem

OK... I must be doing something wrong here... I thought I could edit such a file (.kit) with notepad?

I simply replaced the snare file it contained and saved to a new filename.

I got an error message trying to use it so I re-opened the file with notepad to see and I found the text had all been replaced with "gibberish"...

I re-tried this a couple of times. Making a copy of a "good" kit file and re-saving it under another name... Each time the same thing happened...

Does this require a special format for the file type?

This has been an issue for me with SD3 a few times now (issues regarding editing kits)... This very old method of work (text editing) has been replaced essentially everywhere... It 'needs' to be replaced here too...

I remember downloading some free sfz editor... As I recall it was also a bit unwieldy... I'll have to search for it but these are not sfz files in this case but kit files.... So I don't know if the need for the sfz editor is at all related...

Much Thanks... been beating my head against the bass drum for an hour already! ;-)

No, you can only edit .sfz files as text files.

    Thanks Scott...

    I figured it out...

I opened the Slate Sizzle kit and drag-dropped the Slate OldZep Snare.sfz onto the snare... then I saved the program under a new name...

That solved the problem and was easier to boot! ;-)
