Editor crashes in Audio Creator when saving

I hope someone has a suggestion.  I have Audio Creator 1.5.2 on my Vista computer and every time I try to save a file I imported and clipped in the Editor, the whole program crashes.  It does save the file, but the entire program stalls out (not responding).  I wait a while, then shut down the program in task manager.  This is getting old fast!  I thought maybe if I only saved at 128 it would work (I was saving at 192) but the same thing happens.  I don't know what I'm doing wrong of can do to fix this.  Please help!

from a frustrated music teacher

P.S.   One more strange this is that when it stalls, it tells me Audio Creator LE is not responding, although my installation disk clearly says Audio Creator (no LE).  I'm sure if that is any sort of clue to the issue.

Are you working with files that have different bit depths within the same project? Although Audio Creator will import and convert files of different sample rates and bit depths, sometimes mixing bit depths will cause an error (File-HRESULT-3218xxxx). If you are using a DAW like SONAR, it's best to export your WAV files at 16bit. Then AC should have no trouble.

You can always rename the .PAC extension to .WAV, then re import the file in order to recover corrupt projects. Please give us some more details about the files you're working with.

    Best Regards,

I am a serious novice as far as music editing is concerned.  I am a music teacher and am trying to clip themes from a larger file I originally have on CD.  I wanted theme music only for each character from Peter and the Wolf. I tried to import the file from the CD but Audio Creator seemed not to see the files on the CD.  So I imported the cd into iTunes (192 bit rate) and then imported the mp3 from my iTunes music folder. That seemed to go fine.  I clipped the portion I needed with little trouble.  I am not combining clips, simply cliping from one original mp3 file.  When I tried to save it as an mp3 is where I the program shuts down.  I tried saving it at 192 and at 128 - same problem each time.  The program does seem to save the file first, and the file will play.  It will not play in the powerpoint presentation I ultimately tried to hyperlink it to.  It shuts down powerpoint.  Audio Creator stalls out during the save process and must be shut down in task manager.  Then I started the whole process over with another character theme.  I haven't tried saving them as wav files instead because I don't yet even understand the problem.

I hope that creates a clear picture.  I think I will try saving as a wav and see if that works any better.

Well, I was able to clip and save files as wav files with no trouble at all.  I would still be grateful if anyone can help me figure out why I could not do the same saving as mp3 files.

It sounds like you might have installed the update for the LE version rather than the full. Open AC, right-click on the small Audio Creator icon in the System Tray (next to your clock) and go to "About". This will tell you exactly which version you are running. Please download the latest Audio Creator patch here:

    Hope that helps!

Thank you for the response.  I suspect you could be right and I at some point downloaded the wrong file.  I think I will uninstall, find my original disk and start over - being sure to get the right updates.  I will report back.

Well, I uninstalled and reinstalled audio creator using my original disc, then downloaded each update/patch  1.01, 1.02, 1.5 and 1.5.2, being very careful.  I even restarted after each update just to be safe.  I definitely downloaded the 1.5.2 for the full version and not the LE version.

And still have the same problem.  I imported a file from a cd and split it into 8 parts.  I want a separate file of each theme of the piece for use in my music classes.  I deleted all but the first theme and successfully saved it as an mp3 - and then the program stalled out.  A screen comes up that says "Audio Creator LE has stopped working" and I have to shut down the program in task manager.

So I still need help.  Any ideas?  Having to restart the program after every save is ridiculous.

I tried the clean uninstall and reinstall but still have the same issue.  The editor does mix down the file, even did the file into multiple tracks (files) using the markers to divide into tracks, but again immediately went to "not responding" when it finished.  It also says "Audio Creator LE" is not responding - I cannot figure out why it says that when I have the full version.  It only seems to be saving as an mp3 that causes the crash - saving as a wav file worked.  I have not tried saving as a wma.

In case I never said it, my operating system is Vista Home Premium (32 bit).

Here are images of what happens.  I save:

    And here is what happens:

I'm hoping there are other ideas as to what is happening?
