Only these conditions will cause the Edirol synth to play:
1. play a MIDI file that you drop into your project.
2. paint on the piano roll with the paintbrush and play that track.
3. trigger the Edirol synth from some sort of MIDI controller like a MIDI keyboard controller or a synth.
That is to say that the Edirol holds sounds that must be triggered somehow. The triggering can be done by MIDI events (the colored rectangles) on the MIDI timeline, aka the pianoroll in MC3. All MIDI events in a MIDI track could constitute a single MIDI file (filetype .mid). Also, pressing a single key on a MIDI keyboard constitutes a MIDI event that, if patched properly to the Edirol softsynth, will cause the Edirol synth to sound based on all the parameters that the MIDI event captured during the pressing of said key.

You'll have to learn to enter notes in the staff view, or data in the piano roll view if you don't have a MIDI keyboard/controller.
MC has effects for both audio and MIDI. Greg
