Effects in Pro Channel vs Effects in channel strip

Hi,
I love the Pro Channel and the use of effects modules where I can then either place an FX preset or a stand alone effect. But can anyone tell me if there is any real difference between doing this and just doing it the old way of placing effects in the FX bin? I don't see any difference myself. Apart from looking good and keeping everything under one roof, sometimes it requires a few more clicks when you're trying to locate the track and effect. 

Also, if you place an effect in pro channel and a different effect in the channel strip, which gets processed first?
