Effects problem...and a few other questions.
I just bought a new computer and installed my Cakewalk software onto it. Before I go any further:
Hewlet-Packard Desktop, Model 120-1132
AMD E2-1800 Processor
4 GB RAM 500 GB HD
Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 Bit
Music Creator 4 and Music Creator 5 both installed.
Interface is the Lexicon Lambda 2.0 USB.
Now, I am well aware that many of the older DX effects and VSTs from 4 and even 5 won't work or won't even show up in 64 bit operating systems. That much I am okay with. However, I have an odd problem: the native Cakewalk Chorus won't work. It shows up in the plugin menu, I can open it/place it on a track, I can open it and adjust the parameters, etc., but there is no effect; e.g., the output remains unchanged audibly. I'm pretty sure this is not a compatibility issue, because I have the plugin installed on my laptop as well, which is also 64 bit, in both MC 4 and 5, and I don't have any issues. I have rescanned all the plugin folders for failed plugins, restarted the program, etc. with no change. I am not sure if this has effected any of the other plugins. Any ideas? Is there a way to just reinstall the plugins and see if that works?
EDIT: The same problem also appears with the Multivoice Chorus/Flanger. Also, niether of these have any of the typical presets anymore.
Also, I know it's not the best, but I was rather fond of Studioverb (1), which also works in both 4 and 5 on my 64 bit OS laptop, but does not appear in either MC version on my new desktop. I am aware that Studioverb 2 is not 64 bit compatible, but as I said, the first one works fine on my other machine. Regardless, the Chorus not working is more of my primary concern.
Also, how many simultaneous (recording) tracks are available in MC 6 and in X1? I am looking into getting a bigger, better interface (more ins/outs for recording drums) but I need to know if that's pointless unless I upgrade to MC 6 or Sonar.
One last thing: I have heard the Blue Cat has some good free vst effects, is that sentiment echoed on this forum?
I am also looking for a good graphic EQ (similar to KarmaFX 31 band EQ, but as far as I'm aware, KarmaFX's graphic EQs aren't 64 bit compatible yet...or wasn't the last time I checked. Anyone know this for sure? It doesn't seem to say on their page).
Basically, since 64 bit seemed to severely limit the number of effects available in MC, I'm looking for other options, mainly for EQ and also time-based effects. Anyway, sorry for the long post and stupid questions, but any input is appreciated. Thanks.
