Either Way

I was asked by Rich (psalmist35) to add some bass to this song. I got carried away and added some drums, strings, acoustic and electric guitar. Oh yeah, I mixed it too.

But none of that takes away from this talented 16 year old singer songwriter, named Annelle Staal. That's where the real talent in this song lies, IMO. I hope you'll agree.

Hi, Ed. Nice song, and very cool / special (in a good way) voice on Annelle. Good mix. I think it needed the added elements, to take it a step up.
    All the best.

    Beautiful job Ed and Annelle!
Super good mix Ed. All the instruments are nice and fat. Good lows to highs.
Like the air in the vocal.
I think it is one of your best mixes Ed.
    Is this using MixBus3?

I think the arrangement is perfect for this song.
Did I tell you I liked it?

Mix sounds good particularly the drums.  Her voice is on-key.  The song, though rather standard, could be helped alot by adding some textures and other instruments in the arrangement.

    Thanks for sharing.  :)

Most Excellent! Love the songwriting. Love the vocals. Drums sound really nice. Bass player isn't half bad either😊

Hello everyone, personally I thought Ed did a knock out job on this project. What I originally sent Ed was was just Vocal and Piano. It was challenging in itself trying to lay a Bass track down without drums and I was appreciative when Ed offered to develop a drum track too! I also had a mix that originally did but I have just been so busy with work and family that I asked Ed to go ahead and post his mix.

I thought he did an awesome job and his mix sounds great!!

If you would allow a little backgound, Annelle is a very talented Christian Singer/song writer. She originally approached me back in August to record some demo tracks of some of her original songs for a singer/Song writer competition in Nashville. Out of 400 participants she placed 4th. As a result of the process, some of her songs were critiqued and Annelle got a small taste of how ruthless the music industry really is. After some harsh criticism, this prompted Allelle to write another song "Say" that allowed her to vent her initial reaction to her Nashville experience. Unfortunately. I have not finished mixing this song. Ed offered drums and Bass for this song as well. Maybe, I cold post this one sometime soon.

    Thanks for the comments.

    Regards,
    Rich

Very nice all round. I like the sparseness of the first verse (the snare might be a hair loud there tho), and the arrangement works really well. Good stuff folks.

Nice job, Ed!  Of course it always helps to start out with a strong vocal track, and she has a nice voice and good intonation (and the piano is solid).   But overall it comes across as a band recording, and well, I think that means you did the right thing across the board.
