Election Day Ditty

I layed some scratch vocals on this song to give to a drummer today and figured I would give you guys a little sneak peek at it. Kind of a little test run in honor of election day. I'll leave this up a couple of days for all the regulars. I dont want to preface this tune too much but I will say it is written in 3rd person perspective so no one thinks I am part of some satanic cult. This one is a one of kind tune for me, it's not my usual fare. It was certainly born out of angst but it is what it wanted to be I think.

There was no mixing involved here, just set levels and burnt it. Most everything will be redone. This is just the writing scratch.

Disclaimer, It came out very loud and you might want to remove small children and household pets from the premises before listening loudly.

Lyrics

All that I believe, is the open door
Is the concrete floor, that I just fell on
Got big stock you see, I'm high in the company
I am the killer that's hiding in your home

I am your government the greatest democracy
I am your teacher the greatest philosophy
I am your detriment, I am calvary
Look what you did to me.

All that I believe, is the human lies
Is the sunken eyes of children gone hungry
All that I can pray, we'll all fade away
Into some glorious spiritual healing.

I am your government the greatest democracy
I am your teacher the greatest philosophy
I am your detriment, I am calvary
Look what you did to me.

I can't change if you wont change.
I can't be blamed if you wont change

I can hardly see, what's in front of me
I'm on the altitude you need to climb on
I am indecency, inhumanity
I am the altar you need to kneel on.

I am your government the greatest democracy
I am your healer the greatest biology
I am your detriment, I am calvary
Look what you did to me.

I'm your ecstasy
I'm your diplomacy
I am your deity
Sent here to set you free

Sure wished you loved me.

WOW, I only wish my finished mixes sound that good. I really enjoyed all the background effects and the tone of the guitar. A very cool little ditty. GREAT JOB!

Coward.... Stand by yer own conviction man!

Seriously though this will be spectacular, great theatrical lyric (given that it's in 3rd person view) and a really powerful tune.

The vox sound amazing sort of getting into Jon Anderson territory in places albeit with a far more exciting tune and poignant message that I would associate with that point of reference.

    Spectacular indeed.

Kev, wow thanks man, I am surprised you mentioned guitar tone as that was 1 thing that was grating on me a bit. It is my old toneport, i guess they always sound fuzzy or something to me. Thanks for the compliment man.

Frank, thanks bud, I really love your new tune.

Jon, ok you busted me, I lead the satanic cult around these parts. wow Jon Anderson huh? I always loved his voice. Thanks alot bud.

I like this... this is a good mix...

Good tone on the guitars... fat sounding.... The Vox are really good... spot on the pitch.

    Creative too.

Hey Jamzor, if it's sounds good to you I must be heading in the right direction.

Thanks Herb, hmm another one for guitars, I just assumed they sounded awful lol.

Nohow, I had already had the music and idea for the song laid out quite some time ago, yesterday I finished the lyrics and sang it just to see how it felt, but yeah, It wasn't my intention to keep any of it as I thought the basic rhythm was a little stiff. I hear ya though, 15 takes is barely a warm up for some of my tunes. My last one was a vocal tracking nightmare. You never know what your going to come out with. thanks man.

Absolutely stunning Ed, I love what you've done with this since I heard it last, those chorus vocals are just spinetingling. Great guitars too, another vote is in!

Oh yeah man, I forgot you had heard the music for this long ago. Spinetingling works for me. I am always happy to get input from you, thanks man, I owe you alot. Hmm another for good guitars, what to do what to do. Very unexpected.

Ed, I think the most powerful part of this is the vocal performance. As in most of your songs, you seem to effortlessly go for notes that to me are just killer. With some real drums, and a polished mix, this one is going to be powerful.

Wow! Aint much more to say but "wow"... Great strong lyrics, cool small "effects" going on, really nice guitar sound, reslly nice snap and drive in the snare and great clean overall mix. Only thing is I think I would like to hear the talk in the intro a little clearer (but only very little clearer ) plus I'm a sucker for louder kickdrums but that would probably just mess everything up and be totally wrong for the genre. Outro was really cool and wrapping everything up again.

Really great song, I'm downloading! (Hope that's OK)

Hey Randy, thanks alot for the kind words on the voice. It is usually the one instrument I feel most comfortable on, everything else.. not so much.

Spaceduck, the feeling is mutual. your Centipede song blew me away, I thought it was one of the most creative tunes I have heard in awhile. There is alot of sameness in music on the net and I love tunes that stick out but are still accessable like that tune.

Legion, Thanks a ton man. I am with you on the loud kicks, I love em too. I think I tried to raise it while setting levels but everything was already getting a little mushy if you know what I mean. Download away man.

Tomjeff, thanks alot. The toneport in your sig is the one I have, and was used on this for all the guitars.

    Hi Ed,

Cool tune, just gave this a listen at work. Your vox really stand out to me - bit of a different flavor from what I've heard from you before. I'm listening on pc speakers at work, but the mix comes through pretty well.

I thought the piano sections were very nice. The lyrics are well done. Also enjoyed the arabesque guitar parts.

    Enjoyed it,
    Doug

    Cool tune, great vocal performance.

The guitars would sound great with the full Boogie treatment.

Hey Doug, thanks bud. Yeah this one is a departure for me writing-wise.

Ed, I could say the same back at ya. My buddy has one of those droolworthy Les Pauls, I think I am going to ask him to borrow it to record the guitars on this. I may need to leave my kidney or liver with him but it will be worth it.
