Electric Bass Guitar Synth (need one)

Any advice on getting a realistic bass guitar synth ? I really don't want anything with a multi gig libary, just something that sounds good, not something outragous.

Many thanks.

    Hi Ognis,

I guess it depends again on your budget. I saw Virtual Bassist and Drum n' Bass(M-Audio) at the store the other day, but I haven't heard/tried either one...

i'd be interested in this too. i'm currently using the edirol bass that comes with sonar 3pe. the sound quality is fine but there's really just the one generic tone and i'd like to get something with a little character.

Thanks. I found a one at one time, was it stienburg ? I'll have to check, but it was sevral gigs, and extremly expensive.. That's way more than needed. Anything over a gig, would be more than I'm looking for.

You are most likely thinking about Spectrasonics Trilogy, Ive seen it in action, probably the most realistic bass sounds Ive heard.

syrath thanks. Yeah, I saw that, and it calls for 3.1 gigs of disk space and 350 dollars, which I cant do. I tried Virtural Bassist, but seems to be samples only

You might want to check ManyTone's ManyGuitar and Ultimate Bass Kit.
The prices are reasonable and the sounds a very good quality.

(Hum, the link doesn't seem to work, just paste the URL into your browser, it will get you there. In Products you will see a link at the top of the page for ManyGuitar, and the Ultimate Bass kit is in "Manymore"

hypolydien, many thanks, but it says alot about "samples". Is this a sample based, with only samples or loops ? Or can I use it to play with my MIDI controler ?

    Thanks again.

Manyguitar is a sample based synthesizer. The samples are gathered in soundsets which load into Manyguitar. They're not loops. Manyguitar will load as a VST instrument. The soundsets show up as presets in manyguitar and you play them through your controller as any other VST or Dxi synth.
The soundsets will also load in Wusikstation if you have it.

Manytone is a small Canadian company who makes a some good quality stuff. I have manyguitar and the ultimate bass kit myself and like them a lot.

I agree, Spectrasonics Trilogy is very highly regarded. However can i suggest getting...a bass. If youre looking for a good sounding bass then nothing sounds better than a bass guitar plus you can get them cheaper than a VST.

No joke. I just looked tonight at MusiciansFriend, and saw Bass + amp packages for around 100 dollars and, I was really suprised. I'd go around 300 if it's for the real thing, but I'm a drummer, I've only piddled (is that a word ?) around with strings. Still though, I think I'm just goung to go that route. I also checked out the guitars, and saw guitar + amp packages for as low as 89 doolars, and would go around 300 for that too. 600 dollars, for a bass, a guitar, with amp for each, would be a damn good deal. I also saw some electronic drums for around 600 that'd I've love to look into later on (I thought they were all still 10 grand minimum, like they were some years back - and I would just play them though Battery anyway)... I apericate the help in looking for a synth version, but I think I'd have to agree, I am just going to get the real thing. I've been really itching for playing a guitar though a mic'd cab anyway.

    Thanks again.

Look under free vsts in the producer forum, there's a tiny app listed in one of those.

Do a google search for Broomstick Bass. These are the same guys that developed Virtual Guitarist and Groove Agent for Steinberg. The demo version of this program gives you full functionality of a Fender Bass and I think that there are not really too much limitations on the demo version otherwise. Check it out.
