Electronic drums and Sonar

I'm trying to connect a electronic drum kit to my interface and computer. Using a Tascam 1800 interface and Sonar Essentials. After hooking up MIDI cables from the drum module to the Tascam with no success, I tried the USB port. The signal is there, the meters are moving, but no sound. Can't even get the drums to come through the monitors. Was hoping to hear the music and drums in the head phones plugged into the interface.
Any advice is much appreciative.

To add to the above, MIDI is just note information, not sound. You probably have that connected properly if you see MIDI signals in SONAR. What is needed for sound is to insert a drum VSTi and route the channels appropriately. Once you have done all that work, be sure to save that project as a template so you can just call it up again later.

To hear the drum kit audio, you would need to route audio (headphone) out to SONAR, but you would not be able to split the kit.

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.
