Embarrassing things you cannot unpost from the internet

What do you have up there that makes you cringe? That really makes you wish you had a "master key" to the internet so you could take it down?

About 10 years ago I went through a short obsessive phrase of drinking copious amounts of red wine and transcribing the guitar pieces of Bert Jansch as tabulature and uploading them to Usenet. I completed one every night and I think I ended up doing 60 or 70. Anyway, one of these pieces was recorded on a 12-string guitar, and is immediately obvious as such as soon as you hear it. However, the night that I tackled it, I was particularly sozzled, and in my booze-addled state managed to convince myself that no, he didn't play it on a 12-string. In fact he was so awesome, he played it on a six-string, and through a clever use of octaves and such, made his six-string sound like a 12-string. I remarked as such, in the preface to the tabulature.

Well the resultant transcription was virtually impossible to play. But I was so drunk, I figured that I'd be better at it when I sobered up. That didn't stop me uploading it, however. And as soon as those tabs get onto Usenet, they're distributed onto every tab site out there.

Of course the thing is all over the internet now. I've cringed about it periodically ever since, and wondered how many people have remarked to themselves what a complete dumbass I am. I hadn't even thought about it for ages, until tonight when someone emailed me out of the blue and said "A 6 string? What were you on, crack?"

I can never unpost this stupid tabulature, and my name is all over it. Freaking aliens will be laughing at me in 50,000 years time, I am sure of it. God I hate myself.

If I confessed to what it was then everyone would go look at it.  Best to keep it quiet.

Funny how the FSF was the first thing that also came to my mind, but embarrassed is a harsh word for the OP to swallow. Some shameless bugger plugger is not only large & in charge, but also loud and proud of his achievement.

I havent posted anything im embarrassed of. Im human, sort of, people make mistakes. Just the other day i responded to Steve regarding  a thread he didnt start. Everything is so hard to see on this damn phone, i got the lines mixed up when i read who wrote it.

The only thing that bothers me about my posts is, i feel bad afterwards when things get heated at times. i almost always wish i would have walked away and not responded. Thats why i have some people blocked now. hopefully theres been a noticable omprovement in confrontations on my part. that and the fact that i just dont care about much anything anymore. Im getting really tired and all that goes with that.

Speaking of tabs, a very long time ago i tried to get the tab for Blackbird by The Beatles. There was nothing out there that was close so i did my own, poted it on alt.tabs. something ... asked for some guys i 'thought' i knew to check it out. a few days later i saw it posted all over with someone elses name. last one i did. if you find a very detailer tab of blackbird from mid 90's, it was done by me.

Yeah that happened to a lot of mine, a lot of sites chopped my name off the top and posted it as if it were their own.

It's more fun to be mysterious.  That said, can you guess which of the following are true about me?

    1)  I danced at Chip 'N Dales
    2)  A girl I went out with for six months went on to be a famous porn star
    3)  My "lab partner" for a couple of PhD classes was one of the stars of the famous porn flick Behind the Green Door
    4)  I have been on ESPN more than once
    5)  I have beaten the #1 World ranked person in two very different endeavors
    6)  I was once in a band that opened for Blue Oyster Cult
    7)  I have been behind the wheel of an Indy 500 car going around a track
    8)  I've been on the cover of a magazine
    9)  I own an Alembic

    #8 is clearly not true.

Noone on this forum could possibly own an Alembic. Let alone an Alembic Bass.

I don't do embarassment.  There's only so much shame a person can endure before it all runs together in a flood of self-loathing and humiliation.  I reached that point by age 6.  The previous 5.8 years had been spent in denial.  I was a slow learner.

Instead of embarassment, I've substituted Regret.  I'm not ashamed of it, although I do wish it had worked out differently.
