Embed ISRC code in a WAV or mp3 ?

I've been reading all kinds of stories about embedding ISRC codes in a WAV or mp3 to be sent directly to radio stations.  Does the mp3 encoder in Sonar does that? Any way to do it with a WAV (16 or 24bit)?

IFPI states this:
"'The MP3 format does allow rights management information like ISRC to be included however it is rarely used. What is used is the ID3 system of tags, which is not part of the international standard, but does enable ISRC to be encoded.

It is therefore recommended that an ISRC be encoded into an ID3 tag.''

You need an audio editor, like CD Architect or even Pyro.

mp3Tag is a great freebie. It'll embed anything you can think of and lame them up to if you want.

    It's free as well.

I have Nero and in Nero Burning ROM I can key in my ISRC codes and it will be burned to the CD.  How its read on a CD, I haven't a clue.

CJ : i have cd architect, but i'm concerned with mp3.

ID3: Cakewalk encoder provides that. But no specific line for ISRC.

Will get a sneak peak at those 2 programs.

It's just amazing that no DAW will provide more direct and obvious way to do it!... Even for a WAV !!....

I have my ISRC codes, but.... Just as no one ever thought of allowing protection outside a manufactured CD (a disappearing specie anyway!!....)

For mp3 you can embed the ISRC into the song file itself.  A tool like mp3tag is perfect for the job.

For wav, I'm not sure you can embed the ISRC into the song file -- at least not in a recognised and accepted protocol.

Typically the ISRC would be added to the CD that contains all the song files that are sourced from those WAV files, along with any other CD text that most players would recognise and retrieve accordingly.

Hey Fireberd, I have tried to enter a CD title/ track names in Nero too, but it does not ever seem to do anything. Put the disk in a computer CD drive and it is still just all blank.

Are you recording "Disk at Once" (DAO) with Nero?  You need to use the DAO to get text on an audio CD.

I find some CD players (that are capable of displaying titles) will and some will not.  Playing on a PC, is the same way some show up and some do not.

As far as the PC goes, it will never show up unless you submit the info to the online data bases. Like Gracenote, AMG Lasso, Freedb and MusicBrainz. If you submit to all of these, your info will show up on the pc.

I have a Creative (SoundBlaster) player (a software enhancement/add on to the PC's RealTek audio) and it shows the titles of CD songs, without any Gracenote or whatever data base listing.

Then they where registered already. Most, if nort all releases songs ahve been added to the databases.

FYI ,i would not say i have a Sound Blaster conencted to my Realtec OUT LOUD.  It will be our little secret that you use them :)

What he ( fireberd) is saying is that most modern CD's have the info embedded, so even without an internet connection the titles will show. My DAW is not on the internet,,, 2 miles away from it,, and some CD's will list titles and album art in WMP. I think they are any of the newer ones. Thanks Jack, I'll try switching modes.

Pretty much anything that can be encoded onto an mp3, and more, can be embedded into a wav file, including bitmaps etc. ISRC codes embedded into mp3 files are not considered common either, they are usually embedded into the id3 tag which is not the same as the file per se.

The CD I tested my PC with was one that I created from a session I did for a songwriter.  It has never been submitted to any on-line database.  I also tried a couple of more that I created that have never been submitted to any database and they too came up with the titles.

Windows Media Player, on the other hand only lists them as track numbers.

I need to install iTunes on my new PC as I need that for support for my iPad.  I'll try these with the iTunes player after I get it installed.

The Soundblaster is not a hardware sound card.  Its just some additional software that came with the applications software that Gigabyte supplied with the driver disc for my new motherboard.  Dell uses the terminology "software enhancement" and where I got that from.  I wouldn't have an actual SoundBlaster sound card on my PC.
