Embertone | Friedlander 1.5 upgrade + $99.00 sale

FRIEDLANDER VIOLIN 1.5 ADDITIONS

COLOR MODE
Live string players produce a huge spectrum of tone colors by choosing where their bow goes between the bridge and fingerboard. We have found a way to give you that control as well!

LOWER MEMORY FOOTPRINT AND CPU USAGE
We're taking advantage of Kontakt's proprietary NCW audio format, which shrinks the footprint of the instrument. Despite all the new sample content, the instrument uses less RAM and is easier on CPU than v1!

800+ MB IN NEW SAMPLE CONTENT
- Pizzicato - 4X round robin, 4 dynamics including bartok pizzes!
- Tremolos
- Sordino + Sul Pont is available for all articulations
- Sul tasto - performed on the fingerboard
- Immediate attack sustains - not harsh, not 'normal' attacks
- 'Emo' attack sustains - an emotional swell into each new sustain

IMPROVED DYNAMIC RESPONSE
With the upgrade, the dynamics controller has a much wider range... from the quietest ppp all the way up to a ballsy fortissimo!

BUG FIXES / ENHANCEMENTS
Some nasty notes have been repaired
Aftertouch works for vibrato! Finally!
Hundreds of new, cleaner staccato samples
- Across-the-board tuning adjustments
- Updated and adjusted all of the EQ's

IMPROVED VIBRATO
Each note has been individually adjusted with a specific EQ response for vibrato - based on reference recordings from Dovid.

DYNAMIC/FLEXIBLE KEYSWITCHES
- Don't like where we mapped keyswitches? No prob. You can shift them around to fit your workflow
- That lock on the front page of the GUI turns this on/off
- Pressing a keyswitch hard results in a permanent switch. Let go and the new articulation remains active
- Pressing a keyswitch softly results in a momentary switch. Let go and the prior articulation resumes

BETTER LEGATO PERFORMANCE AND TIMING
- Friedlander Violin's legato is now 'VSL style', which means that playing in a legato style is a bit easier than it used to be
Prior notes of a melody are now retriggered if held down This lets you play trills with ease - simply hold down the first note while playing the destination trill note repeatedly
- We went through every single sample to make sure that the legatos are as even and uniform as possible. What that means for you is that legato transitions are perfectly timed!

NEW GUI CONTROLS
- Responsiveness - you can control the legatos responsiveness... as this value goes up, it alters the start point of each legato transition, giving you a faster transition (at the expense of the full legato sample).
- Transition Attenuation - if you find that any transitions are sticking out, or you want to de-emphasize the effect of an individual set of legato transitions, this knob will do just that! The higher the value, the more accentuated the momentary dip in volume will be.
- Ensemble Randomization - one can now randomize the timing for the ensemble. This way, if the tightness of the group is 80 ms, you can randomize THAT value by a degree so that every notes timing is just a little bit different among the virtual players.

I don't need this, but I might pick it up. It sounds beautiful and it's very versatile.

If you don't need it & are buying it because of the sound be aware there's a learning curve here, it just doesn't sound that way out of the box.

I don't know how much experience you have with classical or symphonic vi's, but it can be tedious & frustrating getting them sound & perform realistically.

Well, I already had the Friedlander violin and stumped up for the cello. I really like the people at Embertone and their instruments are incredibly musical. I'm hoping they will do a second violin and a viola. At that point I would love to get four people together each with a laptop and a qunexus controller (I have two now - amazing devices) and play some string quartet stuff - it would be an amazing youtube video!.

As much as I really like the Embertone instruments that I have, [which I got in a bundle purchase, which makes them about $20-30 each], I just can't wrap my head around $99 or more for 1 Cello and/or 1 Violin, especially since you can get whole libraries for around that price. For instance, like Kirk Hunter's current sale prices.

    Hey Carl,

Though I understand that instruments like this night take some practice, you can get a GREAT out of the box sound with this! There are patches called "MW" and "MW EXP" that have vibrato and dynamics mapped to the most popular CC's (modwheel and expression pedal). If you're not into hardcore MIDI tweaking, those patches will give you an ultra expressive sound with little to no sweat. Here's how the instrument sounds out of the box:

Sale ends tonight at midnight EST!!
