Emulator X and Sonar x64

I just got my brand new DAW with Windows x64 intalled. I am trying to get Sonar 5.0.1 and the Emulator X VST soft syth working. This works fine on my 32bit laptop. However, on my new DAW, when I try to insert an Emu soft synth, I get a dialog that says:

Emulator X VSTi
"The streaming engine failed to initialize ..."

Will this setup simply not work with Sonar x64? Will it work if I install the 32-bit version of Sonar or do I need to install non-x64 windows as well?

    Download the x64 app/drivers from E-mu's website.

ETA: It ran fine on your laptop? I assume you have the 1616 PCMCIA card. I'm pretty sure that both Proteus X and Emulator X require that one of E-mu's audio interfaces be installed on the machine.

    J,

    Thank you for the response.

I did download and install the Emu x64 stuff. I can play audio through the 1818m card and can run Emulator X standalone. I just can't insert a Emu soft synth into a Sonar project.

And yes, I do have the 1616 card on the laptop.

I don't have hands on experience with Emulator X, but I was able to run Proteus X as a VSTi under SONAR 5.0.1 x64. I would think that you would be able to run it as either a stand-alone or a VSTi synth.

Did you download all the updates?

    PatchmixDSP v1.81
    DAS x64 driver package v1.82

    J,

I have downloaded and installed all the latest and greatest drivers and software. The fact that you have been able to run the Proteus VST synth gives me hope.

That's about all the help I can offer. My Proteus X is sitting in its box on a shelf. I quickly outgrew the 0404s I/O, and I have a lot of Proteus X's patches (or similar) ones in my PK-6. One of these days I'll get around to putting it up on eBay.

    Good Luck!

Thank youi for giving it a shot. I apparently have some other root problem. All of the soft synth wither don;t work or ply back distorted. Sigh! I'm off to request Cakewalk support.....

I have the self same problem and get the same error message too. And like you, my Emulator X works as a standalone under x64 but not within Sonar PE 5.1.

Sadly neither Emu nor Cakewalk could shed any light on this...

    Good luck,

I regret to say that neither Emulator/Proteus X/X2 works in Win x64 system :(
It's just Emulator X3, which works under x64, according to E-mu themselves.
The only respond you gett from E-mu when you complain of this is that ProteusVX is free and works on x64 systems.
Proteus / Emulator X/X2 is quite old and I can understand that they do not want to support obsolete software, even if they are really good VST plugs.

Am surprised that you manage to run it in stand alone mode.
How have you managed. I'm interested to hear?

    cheers

Hi,guys. I could not get Proteus VX to run in 64 anything. I finally figured it out. If you right click on the Proteus VX icon, you will see try troubleshoot. Click on that and it will run a scan to find out why it isn't running. Eventually, it will give you the option to run it in Compatibility Mode. Chose that. I clicked on Windows XP,Service Pack 3. The program closed. Viola! it loaded right up. I don't know if that will help with the full X versions but it may be worth a try. Good Luck!
