End of the Line: Remix is UP

Dude, cool song!!! Musically I got a Neil Young & Crazyhorse vibe from this. Great job on the vocals and guitar!! Only nit-picks would be where's the bass?!?! and the drums could use a little spicing up. But it's really I great song - I enjoyed it a lot!!

The bass could use a bit more volume for a little more 'oomph' that's all. The drums sound pretty good to me. Yer smokin' on that git man!! I'm always impressed with those guitar harmonies. Those leads @ 2:30 remind me of Molly Hatchet. You're in good form with this GH!!!!

Well, that was certainly worth $.99 to put on my Ipod!! Excellent tune Herb with some jam up guitar work. If I would change anything, it would be to put the vocals slightly more up front.

my crits would be as far as sound mix and quality
compared to what? compared to your other stuff its

its "tweeking" how far does one go with tweeking?

I'm sure you'll get comments such as bass drums and vox.
and too much vox verb (maybe)

the problem? If it sounds like theres no crispness on my
roland digital moniters then there defnatly is a crispness
problem.

These moniters are kinda weird in a way they can be
boomy and bright all at the same time. so they arent one
or the other but they sure will let you know what is or aint.

not saying they are "genelics" by any stretch.

but for the money I love em.

I use 7 differrent sets of moniters but the rolands are the
refernce. played this tune on my sony tower speakers
and sounded much better. Why?

Put on my akg 240 cans which are also bright and had
the same lack of crispness as my rolands.

vox are too far back as well as other stuff too in
"perceived" hearing. I dont think its level as much as
needing some "crisp"

I would blame what i hear on my age but my refernce stuff
dont lack crisp.

this song is one of your best if not the best. your best vox
for sure.

thumbs up in all regards. so why would i critique it like
i do? a little touch of this and that would breath life, color
and so many other things into an allready warm and
absolutley nicely played and mixed song.

If i could use only "three words"

"full tilt boogie rocker"...that's a really good description. Great guitars throughout, as usual. I'd like to hear your vocal a bit more up front as well, with maybe a little boost in the mids. The drums were okay, but could use some change-ups now and then. Cool song.

bass?
sounds much better. use more passing notes going from
one measure to another. but not too much so the listener
cant predict the bass playing.


vox

also better. sits in the mix better. use multi comp and
center one band at 2k comp it to about a 3 db compression

Knee at about 9 ratio at about 3 to 6
attack about 4

do the same at 4 to 5K center. of coures use not much width
because 2k and 5k are so close. then adjust the levels of
the 2 bands to taste so there will a "contsant" cleanlyness in vox

great job. I didnt put on my cans for this one because it
sounds good on my moniters so no need to double check

Cool number all the way around. I really like the interplay of the guitars- I hear as much Marshall-Tucker as Allman Bro. Great bass line- it really drives the tune. The drums are subdued giving it a live and/or garage feel- as though recorded with two centered mics. Fine with me, I never liked big (80's) drums, anyway.

hey herb, cool tune, loved the guitars , the bass is kinda killin the kick. I can`t hear the drums too clearly (but like you said earlier your a guitar player and let jamstix do the work, so i`ll blame that on jamstix LOL)
Not much for the lyrics, reminds me of the crazies downtown on there bikes with the banners strapped to them that say"REPENT THE WORLD ENDS TOMORROW" but that would be a totally different forum and subject matter LOL

A GREAT BIG THANKS to all who listened and commented and assisted in the crits to get this to this point.

This song was a fun song to write & (of course) play. A few commemted about the words and message. Thank you for listening too. I did not really set out to write a "gospel song" per say with the usual message. I decided to write this from a different perspective... a DARKER point of view as it were. As I look at the TV and the news, I see all around us the condition of the world and society in general deteriorating, just as is predicted will happen. From the wars to street crime, to the earthquakes, and children going hungry , even here in America. To the fact that our government can't keep it's nose out of other people's business, while our own country is "burning", and at some point, we will have to pay fro these things....one way or another.... I just happen to believe Jesus will be doing the judging.

Didn't intent to rant... thanks again for listening.

Now... I think I'll start writing another..... this song BTW is the first new song I've written in quite a few years... it feels good to start writing and have the first new one out of the studio sound like this.

I find the bottom a bit muddy. I want it more punchy down there.

Maybe lower the guitar just a bit. And play with the EQ to make the vocals sit better with the "guitarrwall" in the mix :)
