Enhanced Zoom: I'm never satisfied

Man, I wish I could have asked for this prior to the development of X2.  I like Enhanced Zoom in concept but I hate having to mouse up to the time line area in order to activate it.  I'd love to be able to keybind a key that would automatically toggle the Enhanced Zoom state so that I would be basically opening and operating it with a "Key" + "left or right" mouse button + drag.

Sorry, but I'm not sure what you're referring to by Enhanced Zoom.   Can you share some steps, so I can see what you're doing?  Thanks!

Bill, he means the new auto zoom, I believe :). Wants to toggle it on and off on a keybind.

Edit: ignore me, just re-read, it's early. Realized he meant the new magnafying glass thing.

I think he's referring to the timeline zoom function. If so that can be achieved with ctrl and arrow keys as well.

Yes, that's it.  I tried looking up the name of the feature in the Help files but must have gotten the wrong term.

I think that not having to mouse to a sweet spot on the timeline would save time.  (I've got a similar behavior set up with the mouse wheel but I'd like to have the added functionality of the left and RIGHT buttons. )

So, basically, you're looking for an option to CTRL+L/R Arrow zoom at the cursor, rather than at the Now Time. Is that right?

Dave is always looking for new ways to Reaperize SONAR. Not that it's necesserily a bad thing...

The issue, and I agree, Bill, is the magnafying glass on larger LCD screens, is small :) and up there on the top shares real estate with the looper markers etc.. That is my feeling initially, I may change my mind as time goes on.

Basically, yes.  My thought is that once I see a detail on a track clip that I want to investigate, I don't want to have to move my eye focus to another spot on the screen.  We guys with a lot of miles on our eyes (IOW, we're old) wear things like Trifocal progressive lenses and a shift in our eye focus also requires us to move our head position to bring the screen in focus.  Then we have to move it back down to the work area and adjust our head angle again.

So a key combination plus the left or right mouse key for a enhanced zoom would be cool.  I know the other key combinations to do what I need to do but I think that the Timeline zoom would be better because I don't have to remove my right hand from my Trackball.  Less movement of my hand and my eyes is a good thing in my book.

Another user quickly sussed that I was mimicking a Reaper behavior that's a enhanced mouse feature.  I don't want to be a Reaper user, I want to be a SONAR user but the competition has some ideas that are worth copying.

Dave, do you use the mouse wheel zoom function?

That is fairly customizable in that the focus spot can be changed as can the horizontal/vertical zoom settings and combination, as well as over ridden with modifiers.

Track View Menu-->Options-->Mouse Wheel Zoom options.

    That may help

Yeah, that has been my usual method of zooming.  Right now I am working with a couple of mangled fingers that cut up with a wood router and it hurts to use the mouse wheel.  The drag of the track ball feels better.    Also the Timeline zoom zooms out all of the tracks and the way I have my Mouse Wheel Zoom set up it only zooms the track selected.

The suggestion that I'm making isn't a deal breaker but after using Reaper while SONAR X1 was being tweaked at it's initial release, I got spoiled by some of the enhanced mouse features it had.  Looks like SONAR X2 is rapidly catching up.
