Envelope Offset - what are users using it for..? Whats its purpose?

Once or twice I (today especially) I have seen irradic mix behaviour as a result of inadvertently having it on.  Can anyone demonstrate what this feature is useful for?  From my point of view its like an automatic screw everything up button....  I already have one of those=-)

It is very useful when you need to make an overall adjustment without changing the automation shapes.

Exactly, but on a track by track basis.

Yes, it allows you to alter the values of all the nodes in the envelope without actually changing them. And their values all remain relative to each other. You can also select all the nodes in an envelope and then drag it up/down to change the values, but using the offset is much easier.

Maybe try a different key binding for "Envelope/Offset Mode", so that it's more unlikely to inadvertently hit the specific combination of buttons.

FWIW, I use the caps-lock key on my keyboard for Offset Mode because it has a little LED which turns on when caps-lock is enabled.

Easy to see and therefore a helpful reminder.

And yes, I too use and like this feature.

There is no key binding in Platinum. the only way to go into Offset mode is by the dedicated button in the Control Bar.*

OP, I use it when I've carefully crafted an envelope and find I need to raise or lower the whole track by a set dB value.
This is in the case where using the track input gain would upset the inputs into Dynamics processors

    1. Engage Offset mode
    2. Adjust fader
    3. Go back to envelop Mode
If you engage it and leave it in you can easily end up with a horrific mess!

    * Edit to add:

In previous versions the key binding was 'o' but many users remapped it to something less likely to be hit accidentally.

Offset mode has only ever messed me up. It is less dangerous in current versions because it is harder to turn on.

StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen.
I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

Depends on how many changes you made inadvertently, but maybe all you need to do is reset every Fader, Pan knob, Send, etc. in Offset Mode to unity because that's the default.

Make sure you're in Offset Mode (icon turns orange)
In console view, double click any fader that isn't at 0dB to return it to 0dB
When you've done them all, come out of Offset Mode

I cloned almost my entire session without the properties.... and have to start over.

I must have inadvertently hit this as its directly under the record icon.  I have run into this before...  where this feature is inadvertently engaged.   I personally am not digging any features such as this that can leave your entire mix disabled and unrecoverable yet remains inaccessible.

what a great way to dig a whole in a pile of......
