Envelope bug is driving me crazy!!!

Some days, I want to just throw Sonar out the window.  Yesterday was one of those days.  It's the old buggy envelopes that Cake just doesn't seem to be able to fix.

So here's the latest issue.  I discovered that if you duplicate a midi clip that is on an instrument track that has existing synth automation on it, the clip that you are duplicating LOSES its automation, ie the automation is not copied but is cut!  Imagine if you have some complex synth automation and you decide to duplicate one of the clips.  All your hard work is wiped out!  Arrrggghhh!!

Here's a youtube video illustrating this

And it's not in either place anymore?

Thinking if the automation goes with the copy.

The automation goes with the copy.  It just gets wiped out from the original place.  I'd be quite happy if it didn't move the automation and just left it where it was!

Maybe you could not "copy" the envelope with the clip but just copy the clip then copy the envelope and paste it.

I just tried it and the crazy thing is that if I do it this way, the envelope doesn't get copied to the new position but stays in the old position.  THis is even after I select the "Copy Track/Bus Envelope" option in the dialog box that appears after I hit ctrl-c.

As many have said before, automation in Sonar is seriously broken!

Are you sure the automation isn't getting copied to the audio track portion of the instrument track?

I recall another thread recently where automation wasn't showing on instrument tracks. It was there and you could see it when the track was split into audio & MIDI but when combined it was showing a flat line.

I hardly ever use instrument tracks and I don't get that behaviour on a MIDI track so splitting the track out might be worth a look.

I wish CW had never made instrument tracks.

More Deja vu all over again. Isn't this pretty much the same issue from this thread?

Not exactly.  In the other envelope bug that I reported, the envelopes were messed up on a different track from the one that I was duplicating a clip.  In this bug, the envelopes are messed up on the same track.

I'll also split the instrument track into its individual components to see if what FastBikerBoy says happens.

The bug he is referring to is related to MIDI automation, which normally is applied only to the MIDI portion of a Simple Instrument track, and is therefore not visible until you split it. But this is synth automation, which can be seen in the instrument track without splitting it, but will also show up in a MIDI track when you split it.

I can't reproduce your issue exactly, but in the course of experimenting, I ran into something like it where synth automation copied from one section of a Simple Instrument track to another was only visible in the copy when the track was split.
