Epiphone Les Paul Ultra III
Hi All, For Christmas my wife got me a new Epiphone. I just used it on one of the tracks for our new CD and have to say I love this guitar. I've only ever owned lesser versions Les Paul guitars and I have to say the warmth I get out of this guitar (run thru Guitar Rig 4, Pod Farm, and Amplitude 3) makes recording it much easier. I've yet to run it thru my Marshall half-stack, but I have a feeling it will sound great as well. It has a pseudo-acoustic pickup included on it which I haven't found to be very realistic personally, but I guess if you don't have a nicer acoustic (which I already do 6 string and 12 string) it would be handy. Also, from what I hear it is a lighter version Les Paul than your standard Gibson versions. In case you interested I included a link to a video on the guitar from the Epiphone site: http://www.epiphone.com/Products/Les-Paul/Les-Paul-Ultra-III.aspx I don't work for Epiphone or Gibson (although I wouldn't mind it!). Just thought I would share, Tom

You have a loving wife! I use my Epiphone Les Paul to record all the time with pod farm and it hasn't let me down. I second tyacko's recommendation.

nice guitar. i remember when the II came out, seriously thought about picking one up, i like the idea of the chambered body, both for tone and weight relief. which finish did you get?

I use this one : nice action and great feel. Warm rich sounds through a Marshall VS 100 Combi. Cheers, Jerry

batbrew said... which finish did you get? She got me the Faded Cherry and it looks very nice. I always wanted to get a Gibson, but I can afford the prices that they sell the Les Paul at. I tried a couple Epiphone guitars (pre-Ultra III) at Guitar Center before and never felt like the quality was quite there. So far, knock on wood, I'm very pleased with the quality of this guitar. Congrats on the new music in your signature Bat. I've checked out your stuff before. It is always top-notch. Tom

audiobro, Thanks man! Are you using the latest Pod Farm? I'm using the free version they offered as while back (from v1). Possibly considering the latest version. It certainly is nice to be able to play your guitar without waking up the neighbors!!! Tom

tyacko : Sorry not to have replied sooner. It stays really good in tune cos of the locking nut - even after diving 2 notes. THe Floyd Rose whammy has "tweaking"screws on it but you only need to set it up before a gig. However, it is a realy PIA if you break a string half way through a number - no easy string change, better to pick up the spare guitar ! However, there are 2 Allen keys attached to the neck to enable you to change at half time ! Cheers, Jerry
