Gotta give you credit for being consistent despite your feelings about the company.

Thanx Dub...
not against the product...as I've stated repeatedly...
Just the company practice of raping their long standing existing customers...

I don't think it's too strong..many of us spent THOUSANDS of dollars on these Instruments and expansions....to be left hanging for a 64 bit version so we could safely continue to use our Invested dollars. NOPE...iCrap came first...
They announced SampleTank 3 years ago...even with pictures of them "recording the samples (which recently resurfaced for THIS itteration of the ST 3 "were hard at work" blah blah blah. But then...nothing....a year goes by...nothing...another year goes by....nothing ...another year...iCrap....another year....iCrap....FINALLY they announce it again (with the same promo pics) ....then promise by the end of year...that comes and goes...then March...that comes and goes...and then mid year....and FINALLY settle on July 24th!
I would call that RAPE...plain and simple...they let the existing customers languish in 32 bit land, some could use the Instruments, some couldn't....many that could still had lots of crashes...
Did IK jump to the customers aid and get the product ready....NOPE...they went after the iCrap market IN MASS HYSTERIA...and left ST in a pile of ruble..they didn't care that the customers were having trouble, OR that they had said they were working on it (LIE) and were instead going after Apple tards...
I don't know about you, but I tend to feel that's RAPE....
THEN, because of the backlash because of all this...they go on a GIVE AWAY FRENZY with a group buy of BUY ONE GET 4 FREE so that they can increase the customer base for this WAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY late release...because those of us who got screwed most likely wouldn't be buying.
THEN they they say it will be a "TIERED PRICING" release based on what you own...there were no TIERS... it was...if you own ST 2.5XL or Miroslav or TS3 or TW3 you get $X, if you don't you get $X that's not a "TIERED UPGRADE STRUCTURE" based on how much you own...it's just we're gonna soak everyone for every penny we can get...AND we'll take away ST FREE so that you HAVE TO....HAVE TO pay us for what we promised you 5 years ago..but left you hanging for....so SUCK IT UP CUPCAKE...
So...I tend to call that RAPE...but, maybe that's just me...
There are many here who KNOW these things....they lived it...

And please understand...not only did they do this..they offered no apology whatsoever for it....so that further compounds the "insult to injury" factor...
As a matter of fact we were told "you got what you paid for so shut up about it"...not in those particular words...but pretty much the same thing...

Larry..i already knew the "history" because you and several others have repeated it often lol. I just don't see it as being as awful as you do. Agreeing to disagree is what makes America awesome. I guess I know too many people who have been raped for real to compare money spent on software voluntarily to having someone violate your body. I'm quite sure if you gave anyone who was made to perform sexual acts against their wishes the choice between that and being upset over the business practices of a software company, they would choose the latter. I have heard variations of the "crime" over and over and I am still trying to grasp what IK did that was so sinister. Did IK promise a free 64-bit version at the time you purchased? Did Pro Tools or any of the other big name software products give their new flagship model of program free when they finally got around to going 64-bit ? (I already know that one is no) In fact, aren't they the ones that cost customers thousands of dollars by finally going 64-bit but making all the old plugins obsolete by insisting on a proprietary format? Did you get what you paid for? I also would love to hear how their delay somehow cost you money. It sounds like you purchased what you paid for. Yes, IK heavily discounted their older products but I don't see the big deal in that. Most companies do. Again, I can't tell you what should or should not make you angry, but please try to understand that not everyone is going to see it as a big deal and share your anger on the issue. When you rant on this topic you tend to label those of us who don't agree as somehow having GAS or selling out to big greedy corporate interests and other possibly insulting buzzwords and catchphrases. I have posted with you long enough to know that you don't intend to insult so i take it with a grain of salt . IK is probably smaller than a lot of the larger companies I have seen you promote who have done things arguably as bad or worse than IK without bothering to attempt to explain why they did it. I am the farthest from a GAS shopper. I have purchased exactly 3 vst plugs in the past two years (Geist, ST3, string studio 2) despite being tempted by sales and the reviews of users here. The first two were to seriously fill a need and both were at discounted prices. The last one was a no brainer price and I wanted to support a company that has given me great service despite the fact I got their product dirt cheap. I'll probably never understand what has you so upset..but that's ok. Just don't assume we don't know the history. We just don't see the excat same set of events the way you do. if everyone saw the exact same set of events exactly the same way, there would not be over 5000 denominations of Chritianity. We would not have the toxic us vs them standoff in politics. Muslims would not be killing each other left and righgt in Iraq now and we would all have consensus about IK Multimedia :). Just skip on buying and let it go...or keep telling us all the history. Either way, I doubt it sawys peiple one way or another.

We, as Audio Engineers, Producers, DJ's, or whatever buy Software as in an investment, and, as such, expect to be supported by the Company. Just about EVERY COMPANY keeps up with technology.
It cost many the inability to USE what they had paid for.....THAT is the issue... and, had IK been having financial trouble, or had some "legitimate" reason to delay the product, that would have made it an entirely different matter...
Did they promise a ST 64 bit....yes...years ago....and there WAS a FREE version UNTIL this release...that says GREED...plain and simple...
The could have kept ST 3 FREE and allowed us to import our existing instruments so that we could use them in the 64 bit world...that would have at least somewhat appeased those who got the "long term" shaft....
Instead, they eliminated it....to FORCE us ( in the event we want to continue to use what we invested large sums of money into) to pay for it...
See it as you will... you want the product, so that alone will "sway" it your way...
It's all good...

Err that aside, really you only get one piano, some EPS and some Tron junk. Under 400 megs for the lot. I'm thinking 20 bucks is actual value.

SampleTank Free for the 2.x version didn't come out for years after the initial release (in case anybody reading this thread is unaware). We provided 64-bit versions of T-RackS and AmpliTube at no charge to those that owned recent versions (sorry T-RackS 24 or AmpliTube 1 or 2 users, those weren't even as long in the tooth as SampleTank either...). People interested in the response to the question about "Why SampleTank 3 for 64-bit?" can find the official answer on our forum at Why SampleTank 3 for 64-bit? An explanation. Agree or disagree, we all obviously have the right to our opinions of course.

and larry...although i purchased sampletank, I am all ears if you know of a $99 multitimbral solution that covers everything sampletank does. As I said in another post, if I boycotted every company I had an issue with their practices, I would likely be using mostly open source software. There are times i wonder if Adobe isin league with the anti-christ but I still shell out my money every month because i make a living using their products. Even if i was as pissed at IK as you are, I might still get it because other options would cost me more money and affect my business. i admire your principals and convictions even if I find them to be unfounded.

See...no apology...just CORPORATE ARROGANCE... This post and thread totally negate the fact that your company left the product COMPLETELY unsupported for almost 5 years....in favor of iCrap...and could have simply GIVEN a ST 3 FREE to those who only wanted to be able to us what they paid for in a 64 bit environment without issue... We know all of that information...it's a "Smoke Screen"...thanks again for proving it... This only goes to show that people just WANT...that's why some who get raped desire to have an intimate (howbeit, meaningless and abusive) relationship with the Rapist.... I certainly empathize...as I was a victim myself Dub...so keep those comments out of it... (it's an analogy...and a good one...as, in Rape, someone UNWILLINGLY GETS USED and someone SELFISHLY BENEFITS) This has to do with a company that failed it's customers...some may not think so.... a VAST many do (most have moved to Kontakt or some other Sampler (not ROMPLER, which is what ST 3 is..) due to the SEVERE lack of support for this product... The sad part is ....IK knows what they did...and make no apology for it... I totally respect others rights to do as they please and buy what they want... but I DO NOT support or respect a Companies right to do whatever it pleases at the expense of it's Customers and the Products they paid good money for.... I will say no more on this....
