Et Tu Carlos????

In another thread they (we) are debating bass players.  It led me to post a couple of Tower of Power vids highlighting Francis "Rocco" Prestia, their amazing bass player.  Coincidentally I remember seeing some posts recently which expressed some measure of adulation for Carlos Santanna...who I happen to like quite a bit as well.  But while listening through a raft of TOP videos and being reminded of just how hotdamnjesushchristmasonasodacracker good they are I stumbled on this set where ol Carlos is sitting in with them.  Here's an example.  I encourage you to give it a listen as it, to me, exemplifies why a goldfish should never leave it's own bowl.  Your opinion may differ but mine is....he sucks.  And I mean hooverville.  Anyways, it gave me a chuckle.  (Mind, it does not diminish my admiration of Carlos one whit...it just shows what can happen when you are out of your element).

Where you come from is gone...where you thought you were goin to weren't never there...and where you are ain't no good unless you can get away from it.

I saw Buddy Miles front for Carlos at the Sunrise theater way back.

Same thing happened... and it was just Buddy doin' his thing.

I think you can easily find that Carlos knows what he does and where he stands. He started on a side walk and he's gone a long long way but he describes it as an incredibly difficult journey. He's a soul man... through and through. He does what he does.

That Video gave me chills... horn bands can't be experienced on a video or a stereo... a horn band is simply too freaking bad to get squeezed into stereo... man o man. By the way, the keys boardist is blasting... but you knew that. :-)

    best regards,
    mike
