"Et in arcadia ego" new-age choir and guitar piece by Morenoise remix 3-2
Hi All, I started this piece in Cubase 5le, which I got for free with my interface, but that seems to have a lovely feature called "white noise of death". So removed that from my computer but saved the choir part I managed to save before Cubase crashed. I tracked the guitar part in Presonus S-1 and added some strings. Mixed and mastered in X-1. Have a listen : http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10337051 Greetings, Rik Edit: Did a bit of a remix, changed the strings to Garritan Pocket Orchestra, edited out some notes from the strings part, played around with velocity and volume curves, tried to make the strings and choir a bit wider, tamed the delay and made it even longer . If you want to have a listen : http://soundcloud.com/rik...emix-et-in-arcadia-ego

I found that the guitar seemed to float a little detached from the choir. Personally I would have narrowed the width of the guitar and widened the choir, even going as far as lowering the choir in the middle. That is just my opinion. Thanks for sharing.

Hi John , thanks for listening till the end . I would like the guitar to float even more detached from the choir, lol. Just read an interesting article in SOS on mid and side processing if that is what you mean, have to have a look for a mid and side processor. Greetings, Rik

It's looking a lot like spring down here in south Texas. I listened to this song with my studio window open and had the birds chirping in the background. Made for a very nice relaxed experience. Sometimes I miss that in the songs forum because I try to analyze a song to death and forget to just listen to it and feel it.

It's certainly a nice sound. Guitar's good. With the delay on the guitar, you could try riding the delay send level and automate it so that not *all* of the guitar is delayed, just the end of each phrase. It sounds tedious, but really only takes a few plays through to automate the send level, and to me can really take something like this to another level. That's just me, though. It is worth developing it a bit? Adding some layers as you go along? I'm not really into the New Age thing, so this might be like suggesting that one adds some distortion to the lead violin in the symphony, but that would keep my interest all the way through. Perhaps some sort of percussion? Not a drum beat -- even I can see that that's too much!! -- but just something to take it along a bit. Anyway, nice sounds. Well done.

Beautiful! I love the reverb (or echo?) on the guitar. I'm with Mark....I rarely just listen to enjoy the music around here. This is one I could easily relax to. (now if I'd only remember when I have time to relax!) :-) Anyway, you might try to ease those strings in at the very first note. They seemed to sorta jump out at me. The guitar did too when it first came in. That could be because I had the volume up too high, though. Anyway, this is great....nice laid-back feel. :-)

Hi John, no channel tools in x-1 essential, alas . Hi Mark, thanks for listening and nice comments. I certainly didn't analyse this . Hi Daniel, thanks for listening. Good call on that delay, was just to lazy. Don't know what new-age is either, pretty sure this isn't death metal though . Hi Janet, spellbinding isn't it . Just a delay on the guitar to flesh it out a bit. Mastered it a bit to loud I think. Greetings, Rik

Hi John, no channel tools in x-1 essential, alas . There is a six letter word for that that the TOS stops me from using, check out KVR they probably have a freeware one you could try.

"Latin translation - "Even in Arcadia I exist" where "I" is considered to refer to death". Hi Rik - So very pleased you chose to follow the Arcadia = pastoral Utopia route instead of the above alternative! This is a wonderful piece. Had me dreaming of long summer days in country meadows with the occasional dancing nymph passing by (perhaps I shouldn't have eaten those mushrooms!). It isn't often I listen to a piece and don't want it to end. This is the exception. Your guitar work is mesmerising. Very much look forward to more like this. Best Regards Malcolm

Hi John, don't know which word or how you mean that exactly, but thanks for the tip. Hi Malcolm, thanks for listening and nice comment. It's a nice ambiguous title isn't it ? Glad you understand my interpretation through the music. The dancing nymph? I will have to compose a little piece for her. Greetings, Rik

That is a nice combination of the synth and the electric. Malcolm has an very interesting explanation for this song.
