He's written a lot of stuff I wouldn't judge him on one entertaining R rated piece. And who doesn't get raked over the coals when faced with people that are trying to justify the good money they've already spent on nonsense garbage? It strikes me that's the only reason his views could be seen as contentious by anybody. As far as buying gear goes it's a pleasurable pastime for some and I wouldn't decry anybodies enjoyment derived from being a collector, there are plenty of worse things to get involved with, what surprises me though is how touchy some people get when they lose the usefullness justification for their spending.

Ethan does have a healthy sense of humor. Check out his "serious" music videos, such as "Tele-video", wherein he plays multiple instruments, each in a different costume. I actually bought a copy. You get a video demo on using Sony Vegas as a bonus.
Being raked on Gearslutz is, IMO, a badge of honor. Not everybody is willing to call BS on the emperor in his own court, but it needs to be done.
