Eurasian Groove
Hi, WARNING: This is completely different to anything you've heard from me before!!!! http://soundcloud.com/pur..hapsody/eurasian-groove It's for a 'showcase' on the Tubular.Net site whereby the musicians on the site are to create a new piece of music meeting the challenge of "Ambience & Bells". I decided to stretch it further and use the EWQL Voices of Passion package that languishes on my hard drive... So, it's not typical Purple Rhapsody and so I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing when arranging, mixing, or otherwise working with this kind of music. I've uploaded it now so I won't touch it again but just in case I find myself commissioned to do something similar in the future I'd welcome ALL your comments (as negative as you like!) or suggestions for improvement. I'm not even sure I actually like it myself... I know I wouldn't buy it :-O (which is why it's available as a free download) Cheers, Terry.

I think it's good. Sounds like some kind of interlude music for a film of some sort. Really well done.

Hi, Thanks for listening and taking the time to comment. @scottytunes - thanks! @Guitarpima - yes, it's supposed to be ambient which I know doesn't mean "for film" but it's probably about as ambient as I think I'm capable of being these days... Thanks again, Terry.

Definitely film stuff (like I'm an expert in film scores or something! lol). But it does remind of me of some music I've heard on TV. There might be a few notes that sort of jump out a little too much to take away from the ambience a tiny bit. Probably a bit more CC work would take care of that. Definitely not a deal-breaker though. I prefer your piano music, but I think you did this well. :)

Terry, Really nice! The sounds and mix are excellent. I would say that there could be dramatic changes in the mix at times like taking out most of the tracks and just have the voice and a couple of instruments for a passage and then all come in again. Something to let us hear the intimacy and then the fullness. Hope get what I mean even if you don't agree. Love your work.

Ambient/exotic sounding Terry. I love stuff like this! Mood-setting. Full, spacious mix. Definitely would fit to something visual. What did you use for the voices?
Slow Marching Band Win 7 x64, Sonar X1E x64, Studio One v2, Focusrite Saffire 24 DSP Pro, Genelec 8030a, True Systems P-Solo, Focusrite ISA One, FMR RNP, GAP-73. "Someone to watch over me".

Hi all, Thanks again for listening: @Janet - yes, it does sound quite filmic, and yes I was a bit lazy on the CC work for the strings (I presume it's the strings you refer to). Life would be so much simpler if every idea I had could just be a solo piano piece of music... ;-) @Rimshot - thanks. I tried to do the 'bringing it all down and then building up again' about two thirds of the way through but didn't quite manage it. If I wasn't doing it for an "ambience and bells" challenge it would be quite different given the same inspiration. @Rik - thanks. Yup, could do with some piano... I did have some piano arpeggios in there at one point but they were even more incongruous than having a string quartet accompanying the indian and bulgarian voices! @lhansen - thanks for listening. I used East West Quantum Leap Voices of Passion - lots of samples of various phrases sung in various keys from Africa, India, Wales, America, and Bulgaria (I think that covers it). Thanks again, Terry.

I like it. It flows really well and everything sounds like it's where it should be. It could have fallen over into very easy listening jazz land, but it doesn't. I think that the mournful strings really helps on that front. And it grows nicely from start to end.

AND if the strings would just cooperate and sound like they're supposed to sound without us having to do practically work magic on them to get them to sound decent. Oh well...

Terry As I said before, it's another 'string to your bow'... I think it's a great track. It still has that PR style. Nice one mate! Martin

Ok sorry I have been away for so long, wow at least you have stopped with the christmas music. As soon I saw the title eurasian I was in (I know I'm one of those) but this is a beautiful tune, well crafted, I was hooked after only 2 sec's. Really loved it, came through my laptop speakers great as well. Nice job, Peace Ben

Honestly, I thought we have always been at war with Eastasia? Nice stuff. The violin is just a tad sharp. Drop the highs a good deal and it will sound more real.
