Evening

Just another boring beautiful, melodic piece from me.  I think I'm gonna pitch 'em to boring movies and see how that goes.  :-)  Anyway, this is a piece I did about 15 months ago and just realized how much is desperately it needed some loving and a kick in the pants.  I hope none of you remember the original.  Just take my word for it...it's better.  Alas, I imagine it still needs help, so please let me know.

My thanks again to Jimmy who helped me a ton on this one, as well as a few in the CH just yesterday.  You guys are what make my music happen.  So it's your fault.  :-)

Evening

I'm glad you don't.  It was faster, had crappy drums and the piano playing was stupid.  I knew there might be a gem in there (or at least a decent song), but I had to dig to find it.  lol

Hi Janet, nothing boring about this, charming maybe but not boring. Not every piece of music needs to be spectacular, I personally prefer this kind of music. It is what it is and doesn't pretends to be something it isn't .

No actually I listened all the way through :-) I thought it was lovely. Very soothing... And soothing is good for me. I've had more stress in the last two years than most people have in a decade... I'm actually surprised I haven't had a heart attack? This sort of thing helps one relax...

I'll probably play one by mgh next and then be clutching my left arm and gasping for air while turning pale :-(

I liked the first version, it was a bit faster.

I should say though, I feel you need to change this to something called "Moments In Time".

Oh well, that's my opinion for the title.

I liked it either way, and not because I like you, it's because I like your music!

    Keep on rocking Janet!

Robby...yeah, me and mgh back to back would be a bit of a change of pace.  lol  Glad you liked it.  And glad it soothed your troubled heart if only for a few minutes.

Bobby, I can't believe you remember the first version!  Well, I saved that file too, so I can always do a faster version too.  :-)

Boring? How about lovely and lyrical? Unless you're the kind that thinks Chopin was boring. A very pretty tune. Certainly it's much more characteristic of you than Midnight Minuet is, but you don't want to take a chance every time out. Well done, Janet.

Bore me Janet .... I love it. I guess there were times I wish you could have bored me to almost death -LOL- .  The mix is a little rough, but the tune is really sweet and will probably stay in my head as I lay me down to rest in a bit.  Yes this is Evening. Now I'll need one to rise to.......... Thanks for sharing it!

Knowing you as I do I'd call this one a success. I say that because I've seen the
challenges that you've faced with mixing, instruments etc. very well done and a
great example of moving forward in those areas.  The hope is that as we do
get better at things then there should come a point to where we also become more
efficient as more songs are being recorded, mixed etc.

The one thing that distracts me on this song is the places where the bass plays a
(16th note lick?) like at 1.27. As a listener I'm croozing along on the tune for the pleasure
and that quick lick says "KEYBOARD" bass. Lowering the velocity of that lick would
(I think) make it sound more realistic (if your (set) on having it. Me as for my thoughts
I'd discard any 16th type licks on this song (the bass that is).

I think that you did very well on this one.

Thanks Jim. :-)  I'd like to hear your ideas about the mix if you have time.  And if you need one to rise to, try 'Midnight Minuet.'  That should get you going. :-)

    Thanks, Bob!  :-)

Thanks for stopping by, Jimmy.  Yes, I would love to get to the place where I'm more efficient!  You don't like the 1/16th licks?  I sorta thought that's how a bass was played.  Or could be played.  Should I just give in and make it a cello (w/mostly half notes)?  It wouldn't be that hard to do.

    Thanks so much, Tom!  :-)

Thanks Paulo.  Yeah, my thoughts often wander all over the place with or without music.  lol

    Thank you Grant!  :-)

I'm not referring to the bass playing in general such as a:

         1      2     3    4
         /           /  /

^  where this is an eight note

But in the places like 1:27 where the bass plays (there's only about 4 places or so
in the song where that occurs"

         1     2       3      4
         /          / /  /
                      ^      is a sixteenth note

So if this note was kept I would think that lowering (its) velocity/volume (sort of
think of it as a "passing" tone/note compared to the (other notes) wouldn't have it
sounding "sticato" robotic for lack of better words. LIke it's barely audible but you know
    it's there.

I like the thought of bass over having cello. The bass gives the song a strength or
maybe call it "support" It gives the song a "feel" also. A cello "per say" is Ok but I
wouldn't consider it a "replacement" for a bass.

Janet.  Shame on you!  Never EVER call a beautiful melody "boring".  You do yourself a great disservice and in some small way, by casting stones at MELODY you might be somehow promoting RAP

We will always remember you for, and associate you with, beautiful melodies.  You really can't aspire to any higher goal than that.  And I will alway respect you for that very reason.

Keep making beautiful music and never apologize for it.

Thanks, Daryl.  Maybe it was partly tongue-in-cheek on my part.  Although I really love the high-energy songs I hear around here.  Just can't seem to come up with them as easily.  Also, funnily enough, I rarely listen to the type of music I write.  (maybe I get sick of it after spending so much time mixing it.) lol  Anyway, thank you, and I imagine I'll keep making this type of music and hope you good people continue finding it beautiful.  :-)

Quiet and reflecting songs are not boring.  Different style of music have its place and its purpose.  Very nice song!  The first phrase, I swear I heard it before.  I think it was a musical.

Janet I think you're confusing boring with pretty.  Excellent composition, and I felt it was very well played, it not being easy to bring out the emotion on a soft song like this.  It held my interest all the way thru, and I enjoyed it very much.
