"Everything Grows" An electronica love ballad featuring Julibee and Bapu-

There's nothing quite like life itself to get in the way of one's musical pursuits.  And so it has been for me- Clean house, put house on market, sell house, buy condo, throw out 20 years worth of junk, pack, move, unpack, play caregiver for 2 months when Sue (my S.O.) falls and fracures her hip... (huff, puff)... then (after Sue recovers) pack music and computer gear again and drive cross country to Nevada where I am spending the winter months (no more snow for this old dog).  Oh, wait... I'm posting a song, right?

Okay... song post: So, ever since I first joined the Forum and heard Julibee sing, I have wanted to have her lend her incredible vocal talents to one of my songs.  While rescuing some of my older material from a deteriorating tape, I came across this song which I had written largely about my relationship with my then (now ex) wife.  I had nearly forgotten about the song (a divorce will do that to you), but when I heard it again I immediately thought of Julianna.  I gave her carte blanche so far as how she did it, and what you hear was primarily a solo effort on her part.  She did all the synth tracks, percussion and vocals.  I added an EP, some synth fills and percussion accents.  Bapu decided that it was time to give his uke bass a workout, and did a part that I just love.  Bapu also did the mixing, production and mastering on the tune.  Julianna gets co-writer credit for her imaginative re-imagining of my old song, and for having found a better melody line than what I originally had written.

It's the top song on my SoundClick Page- http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=1050818&content=music
Please listen and let us know what you think... ALL comments are welcome: good, bad or indifferent.
-------------------------------------------

I remember the night we met
You acted cool and I played hard to get.
We played out our roles and we built up facades
‘Til love came along and triumphed over the odds.
Seems so funny and distant now
We sit on the steps and watch the sun going down.
But that’s how it goes
Everything grows
and my love too, heaven knows
that my love for you has grown and grown and grown.

I was going to take the world by storm
And you’d be there just to hold my hand through it all.
Now I look at the children, see the dreams in their eyes
And hope that their dreams aren't shattered as nicely as mine.
'Cause love's just a lyric and life's just a song
And it goes much nicer if you just sing along.
And that’s how it goes
Everything grows
and my love too, heaven knows
that my love for you has grown and grown and grown.

Everything grows
Everything grows
Everything grows....

Just to be clear... This is a love Ballad FEATURING BaPu and me, not BETWEEN Bapu and me.  HaHaHa!

In all seriousness, though-- Boys, it was an honor.  Thank you both for the material, the spit shine and polish.

Start with a good song add some serious talent, share that with some others that are equally seriously talented and you get a song like er, um, Everything Grows.

Phil: it had the makings when you started.
Julib: Oh for access to a voice as sweet as yours.
Ed: What can I say the mix is sweet here and as for your Bass uke

Nice all around girl and guys thanks for sharing.

My heartfelt thanks to Phil & Jules for allowing me to play on it and to do the producing.

Ever since I got the Uke Bass I wanted to be able to find the right song for it. I just knew one day it would appear. And it did.

Great work! Perfect to listen to on a Sunday evening. Very relaxing. The vocals are amazing, the production reminds me of Nicky Ryan. I'll definitely be listening to this again!

Hi Phil. This was very pleasing to listen to. The synths are subtle and soothing and Julianna's voice sounds really pretty. I think Ed's bass line and tone is perfect for the song and really completes the whole vibe.

    Hi, Phil,

This is really a very classy sounding electronica song, with excellent songwriting, fresh sounding instrumentation and great performances by all three of you!

Julianna's vocals and harmonies were spectacular, I really loved the overlapping BGVs, and the mix sounded really fantastic.  It sort of reminded me of a fusion of the early 80's bands Berlin and Til Tuesday, with possibly a touch of Annie Lenox thrown in for good measure.

Dynamite work, Julianna, Phil and Ed, and have a great Christmas!

Really great song to everyone involved. Really loved your voice and direction on this Juli. I heard the original and liked it as well..but this was a nice change. The vocal melodies reminded me a bit of Lola as well as that 4 non blondes tune..."what's goin on" which I thought was awesome actually. :) The only little crit (don't beat me up, but I said this to Phil as well when he sent me your original version of this) I would have loved to have heard more part changes to give the words a bit more flavor. You know, like maybe instead of staying on F for the whole thing..maybe a change to Bb then to C or something...just a little more movement. Subjective of course, but that was my only little thing. Everything else was incredible! Did I mention how much I love your voice? Angelic....mmmm you go girl! :)

Mix sounds really good...well done bapu. No crits there...way to go!

John- Thanks for the kind words.  I take it the pups liked it too?

Jules and Ed- The honor was mine.  I should have posted the original 25 year old guitar/voice recording so folks could see how much Everything Grows grew.

Kizza- First off, welcome to the Forum.  Thank you for the listen, and, BTW, second listens are free.

PCODE-  Thanks, glad you liked it.

I'm getting the Lola thing mentioned earlier too.  Not that that is a bad thing.

JB that is an incredible vocal bed right there.  I expected it to be good but not that good!

A nicely laid out song and put together nicely.

Hmmm, I'm thinking I have a couple of items that could use that Uke bass in the near future too.

    Great Job Guys.

    Phil,

I can't fault the performance or the quality of the vocals, mixing or anything.  Wonderful sounds.

Possibly I don't understand the style, but I think the song needs a distinctly different bridge.  This isn't ment to sound as bad as I'm sure it may sound to you but by the time I got to the end it was like I had been listening to a pink noise generator.  The sameness of the whole piece is what I was feeling (kind of like a day in the desert) .  Possibly that is what it is supposed to do and I'm just not sophisticated enough to understand electronica.   I think it needs a change-up in key or something part way through just to break it up a bit.  Please don't get upset or take this personally. I can't do anything nearly as good as this.
