Existing vocals track plays 4 measures late when recording a new vocal track

Hello,

I have a existing vocal track that plays 4 measures behind when I record a new vocal track.

Existing vocal track plays 4 measure late only when recording/ Plays fine when just playing it back.

Playing existing vocal track plays normally on playback but when recording a new vocal track existing vocal track is 4 measures behind.  I have nothing setup in FX.

Thanks in advance.

Mattew

Thanks
Matthew

I think that is your problem the X Fi. Its not meant for low latency multi track audio work.

I don't think you can fix it with a change of the buffers either.

X-Fi is not an ideal card, yes..
But 4 measures late!!! Can that be a soundcard issue?? Or is it a typo?
Also, is it exactly four measures or approximately like that? Is exactly the same delay every time? Is the delayed sound otherwise ok, keeps the tempo, no crackling etc? Is it exactly the same in all projects?
Do you have FX on the track? Metronome pre-count gone silent? That four measures really makes me wonder.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

I'm not buying the sound card as the source of the problem either.  I have been able to use the built in sound card on several different low end laptop's and have consistently gotten under 20 ms latency.  Nothing to write home to mom about, but several orders of magnitude off from four measures.

Unfortunately, I don't have a good suggestion for what it might be.

Don't ask the question if you cannot live with the answer.

That would have to be a very uptempo tune to be 4 measures late at 20 milliseconds latency!
