Expanded - SLOW VST Scanning
Since installing EXPANDED, when I go into references and do a manual VST Scan, it is noticably slower than before. Some have mentioned it's quicker to 'startup', but a manual scan seems problematic (though at least it doesn't error out). Anyone else seeing this? Thanks.

Hmm, interesting. On a hunch, I checked "Rescan existing plugins" and did the manual scan that way. After having done that, doing a normal VST scan (ie, not checking any options) goes really fast again. So that suggests to me that Expanded 'wants' to see at least one full re-scan before it can fly.

Actually, I noticed the opposite, it was much faster and was not rescanning a lot of the plugins it used to scan. I do not have the Scan existing plugins and rescan failed plugin boxes checked and did not before I upgraded.

I do not have the Scan existing plugins and rescan failed plugin boxes checked and did not before I upgraded. I think you probably had "Scan at Startup" set though - right? If so, then others have mentioned a quicker scan as well. But I don't have that set. IOW, I do not scan at startup - I do manual scans when adding new plugins. It is in this condition (ie, a manual scan without scan-at-startup checked) that I noticed this slowness.

You probably have way too many plugs Billy! Not scanning every start up is the way I do it too. Not expanded yet though - maybe next weekend. Brian

I now get the "you have too many plugins" message with Expanded even though I changed nothing ! I've opened a case and received notification they replicated the prob.

As I understand it...if you don't have "scan existing plugins" checked it only scans for new plugs added...hence the speedy scan time. FWIW when I installed my Expanded pak and first opened X1 it "transferred my preferences" and then rescanned all plugins. It got stuck on a plugin called ReverberateLE and I finally had to cancel the scan. After X1 powered up I registered and rescanned all plugins. Went fine. And, so far, everythings running hot, straight and normal. PS: I have scads of plugs in custom folders and I DID NOT get the "you have too many plugins thingy".

Brian And you're probably right Brian :) Get expanded. It feels good lol Oh and PS - there's probably no such thing as "too many plugins" -- only "Not enough time" ;)

I've opened a case and received notification they replicated the prob. what's interesting about that is that I have a BOATLOAD of plugins and I don't get that message. But I don't use custom layouts - and I'm on 32bit XP if that matters. (edit: I should have said "scads") ;)

Ol Pal -- yep, not having "scan existing" checked only checks for new additions indeed. I've been running without "Scan at startup" and without any other options when doing manual scans for a long time without a problem. Even this slowness I found (which seems to be resolved now) is not a big issue, but something I think is not what was intended. But - now I have to look up the word 'scads' lol (j/k) [wink]
