Expanding midi format 0

When you got a keyboard like the yamaha psr 413 and set it up to send Auto-comp and melody out to sonar and record it on a midi track, it contains all the midi info on one track. (midi format 0 )

How can i split the one track into separate track's, so i can edit the separate midi track's ?

There is a CAL that does that - I can't remember which one but it's one of the CAL sripts that comes with Sonar

    1. Select the MIDI track.
    2. Choose Process > Run CAL.
    3. Choose the Split Channel to Tracks or Split Note to Tracks file, depending on what you want to do.
    4. Input a number for the first new track. You should set this to the number of your maximum track number + 1.
    5. Click OK.

    That should do it.

Nope no luck at all with the Split channel to tracks

the split note to track. do partly work in a way, but not as i want it to.

Example tracks on the midi 0 track containing this :

    1 drum track
    1 bass track
    1 string track
    1 guitar comp

i should then with the cal script get 4 separate midi tracks with its own instrument and tones.
    but no way..

i had an older version once of cakewalk, there it was just to record it on 1 midi track ,then save as midi 0.
reopen the midifile and software asked to split the channels, then Viola.. all was good to go.
i should belive that this X1c version should do it simpler, but seems like more advanced software tend to be, the more difficult/impossible it is to do simple task's.

Gahh can someone make a CAL script that really works ?

Don't know why it didn't work for you, but it works fine for me. Are you sure that the tracks in your original MIDI 0 file are set to different MIDI channels?

    Best,

As I recall last time I used Split Channels, I had to create the destination tracks before running it. The CAL could no longer create the tracks in the newer version of SONAR.

just a thought ..no idea if it works but you could simply try saving as a type 1 midi file and then reopen...

I have tryed to save as both midi 0 and midi 1 format and reopened the file no options for splitting file when re open so that dont work, the midifile (comp) is from a yamaha psr 413 from a friend, i have asked him if it could be a posibility that all instruments is sendt to the same channel, and maybe thats causing the troubble of splitting the file. I donno if there's an option in the comp out to select diffrent tracks on the psr 413. i had a yamaha psr 423 and used sonar 8.5 and i recorded the comp there and saved it as midi 0 i guess and reopened it ,then got the option to split the midifile and that did work...

If it's just this one file you need to convert, you can do it manually by using Select > By Filter to select parts by channel and paste them to new tracks.

EDIT: I just tried Split Channel to Tracks.CAL, and it worked perfectly in X1c, including creating the tracks. Must be something amiss with the source track. Does it in fact have parts on separate channels?

    ok anyone try this :

    1. take a standard midi file with more than 2 tracks or so..
    2. Move all miditracks to track 1 and delete the empty miditrack's
    3. go to Clips and bounce to clip
    4. now save the one miditrack as midi format 0 file
    5. close project window

Now you got a file with all the tracks within :)

now try and open the file again and split that file into separate miditracks, and there you go ....you got my problem !!

i tryed to split that file with no luck..so ill guess ill just give this up for now :P
