Export mix, - too many file options to sift through
When I export a mix, there are way too many file options to choose from - wav, mp3, etc? Is there a way to thin out the options. For me I'd love 3 options - wav, mp3, and wav+mp3. I have my own encoder programmed for mp3 options. Also in the past Sonar remembered my last choice. Whereas if I choose a name that has wav or mp3 as the file extension Sonar chooses WaveX or soundcloud mp3, instead of my choices of wav or mp3. 8.5 remembered my choices. If I have a lot of wav or mp3s to export I have to change back to my choice each time I export. I'd be surprised if there was any fix or workaround for this, but I thought I'd ask. I've been surprised many times in this forum with the knowledge floating around here.

I must admit, it's never been a problem for me personally... I only ever export as 24bit WAV, and Sonar (X2 and previous) has always remembered my last setting. Has that changed in X3 and up? I then use SF10 to normalise and create a 320kbps MP3 file... Simples

You actually only need one option because when exporting to mp3 (using e.g. LAME mp3 encoder) Sonar creates a WAV file first and then converts it to mp3 ... so you'll have both WAV and MP§ automatically...

The list can be customized as of the Cambridge update. Read this topic and look for libsndfile-exclude.txt You can comment out any formats you never use in that file. Also read the tip.

yes I've saved different scenarios also, but I saved them in 8.5 as presets and migrated my settings to Platinum. I wonder if I should save a preset in Platinum to help Platinum to remember. In general I very rarely use the presets. I simply export a mix and leave all the settings like "entire mix" etc unchanged. Those settings do stay the same. The setting I'm talking about is the "file type" like mp3, wav, etc. Maybe if I save a preset when I return to that export screen it will keep the file type as I left it. I'll try this.

True, yet sometimes if I'm doing a rough mix I don't bother with a wav, since I may be emailing an mp3. Also sometimes I want only a wav, but it seems most of the time I using the lame setting like you suggested of creating both a wav and mp3 at the same time - very cool feature! I just get a little weary of sifting through all those file type names. Even if I could sort the names to my liking that would help a lot. I'd put my names at the top or bottom of the list.

The highest quality they allow you to upload would be my guess. gmp: The setting I'm talking about is the "file type" like mp3, wav, etc. Maybe if I save a preset when I return to that export screen it will keep the file type as I left it. I'll try this. Yes, a preset does remember file type. I just tried it.

I tried Noel's method. It got rid of about 8 file names but still leaves about 10 that I'd like to get rid of including Soundcloud - mp3, wav, FLAC. I wonder if I can manually add those names to libsndfile-exclude.txt. The instructions don't say you can do that, but maybe we can.

I can successfully comment out the formats that are listed in that TXT file, but I tried adding some more names like Soundcloud - mp3, wav, FLAC and I wasn't able to get rid of them from the file type dropdown list. This is a great idea and feature, but it sure would be nice if we could get rid of the remaining 10 file type names. Am I missing something?

You're right something got messed up with that link. I did and search and found it here; https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=NewFeatures.14.html I also discovered something. In addition to getting rid of some of those obscure formats in the export list, you can get rid of SoundCloud wave, SoundCloud mp3, SoundCloud Flac, and You Tube Publish. These are all in the external encoder. I copied the settings just in case one day I want them again. My export box is nice and lean now and since I did a clean Win7 install, the window is working a lot better now, it's retaining my last file type choice.
