Exported mono tracks get too loud!

I haven't had any problems with this before. But for some reason, this specific project file is messed up!

I want to bounce separate raw channels to send to a guy to mix, and when exporting as stereo, the volume keeps the same as within the project. But when changing to mono (which the recordings are in), they get a lot louder, and get distorted!

Why is this? I uncheck everything in the "mix enables" except for fast bounce and 64-bit engine, so I don't see what else could be interfering.

Does anyone know what's wrong?

Are you exporting from mono tracks or stereo tracks? If the source tracks are stereo, you will always get a 3db increase when you fold them to mono.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

The tracks are mono, so that's what's so weird.

I've continued to experiment with this, and nothing works, "bounce to track(s)" does the same thing distortion thing.

Maybe the best way to solve this for now is to just go with stereo tracks, then decrease gain and convert to mono again. Is there any quality loss for converting between mono-stereo-mono?

Fred, you say you're exporting to mono...but when the tracks are in your project, is the stereo interleave button set for stereo? If it is, that's why your mono export is louder. If you set the tracks to mono interleave, you should hear the sound you hear when you export to mono while still inside your project. You'll just have to decrease the volumes on them. I could be wrong about this, but give it a shot.

Danny: No, I had not been changing the tracks to mono! (Since I've had some stereo track FX on them even though the recordings were in mono.) I didn't think this was needed, since it's been working properly for other project files.

But alright, so it's working now, thanks!
