Exporting MP3's

Hi- Hoping someone will help me make the best choses when exporting MP3's. I'm looking for the best, highest quality mp3. Currently, I'm using these settings: Sample Rate: 44100, Bit Depth: 16, Dithering: Pow-r2, MP3 EXPORT OPTIONS: Quality: (slider) 0 (Better), Bit Rate (kbs): 320 Are these settings the best? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

    You are over thinking this. For the best quality simply slide the bit rate to 320.

    Thats exactly how Im doing it Jerry.  From what Im being told, sites that dont take that high of a quality simply step it down automatically when uploaded. One thing is for uplaods, most like the files 8MB or less in size. I have been experimenting with the different settings wondering the exact same thing and found that this is the best I can get on the sound until I learn something new.  Ill be watching the thread to see also.

    If you want the best quality, then don't export to an MP3 because they are compressed and lose fidelity in the compression process. MP3s are used to save space at the cost of quality. The minimum bit rate for CD quality is 128, but you can improve on that by using 192, 256 or 320. however, keep in mind the higher the bit rate, the larger the file.

     Thanks for all the comments. I'll be using an iPad for playing my songs in a live situation. I would use wav files but won't that limit the number of songs I can put on the iPad?

    How much capacity does your iPad have?

    A typical (wav) 3 minute song will take about 30Mb of space so you can do the maths easily.
    16Gb will limit you to 500 songs.

    I'll assume you've already worked this out but:
    • An mp3 encoded @ 320 is more than sufficient for what you're doing. 
    • iPads are truly limited on the storage tip, so it's kind of a "no-brainer".
    • The id3 tagging for mp3s is useful if you want to display artist/song info.
    • Regarding mp3 vs wave audio quality at your venue: Only Lassie will know the difference...
      (assuming Lassie has the wave file versions on her iPod)

    A 320 bitrate MP3 and a 16/44 wave file are almost the same file size. It just makes more snece to use the wave file in your situation.

    You can also look into FLAC. It compresses the audio file like an MP3 ,but without the loss of audio quality. There ya go!!

    As far as I recall Apple does not support FLAC so thats a non-starter for the OP.

    How do you output from the ipad?
    via a separate interface or the headphone out or something similiar. Any good?
