Exporting audio help please! Audio quality loss!

I hope somone can help me out here. There is a deadline for a tv show I have to meet and I'm a little stressed over this.

I have a mix that I'm really happy with but when I export it to a wave file there is a noticeable loss in the overall quality of the audio.

Please let know if anyone has had this problem and what you did to resolve it.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

    Hi,

Make sure you have selected the correct options in the Export Audio dialog box. Try an Export Preset of "What you Hear". Try using the highest Sample Rate and Bit Depth you can for the Export, and as a WAV file. I have a feeling if you try fooling with all the different options in the Export Audio box you'll figure out what's going on.

    Hi frank,

I tried the "what you hear" preset. That what I was using initially.

I'll will try the highest sample rate and bit depth next.

Can you be more specific about "loss of overall quality"? What does that mean, exactly? Is it distorted? Boomy? Thin?

Don't mess with sample rate and bit depth. You're barking up the wrong tree with that train of thought. Sorry for the mixed metaphors.

This is definitely a routing problem. If your tracks are routed properly and you select main outs or entire mix, you will export exactly what you hear. Sonar doesn't ruin your sound quality when exporting. They would be out of business years ago

    1. All Tracks go to the master bus
    2. Master bus goes to your main outs 1/2 (Sound card outs)
    3. All Buses go to your master bus (if you have a send to a bus from a track)
There ya go bro and thank me later

When I say loss of overall quality Im referring to the lack of instrument definition, deficient stereo seperation primarily as heard in the non exported mix.

And yes, when I solo the main bus it's sounds as clear as it should. All buses are all buses and tracks are routed appropriately to the master buss.

I always choose to export bus and then select only the Master...seems to work for me everytime.

What is the bit rate/depth your project is at?  Export as the same.  Put that mix file into the project lined up and muted.  Now switch between the project and mix file.  Are there any differneces now?  If so, something is screwy in the export process.  X1 has been inserting new tracks for me routed to the interface output.

If the mix sounds fine than there is something going on in the conversion rate.  See if doing it via two steps (export and then convert) works better.

How are you playing back the exported file? Are you using WMP, perhaps? How about if you import the file back into SONAR and play it there - does it sound any different?

    Guys I'm an IDIOT!

I'm using a lynx aurora and it has it's own digital mixer. I was having a problem with panning Steven slate drums 4.0. During my probl solving I apparently left a playback channel panned at center.
Chalk one up for user error.

    Let the ribbing commence...
