Exporting settings

Hello all, I'm totally new to Sonar and recording in general. Having a good time with it though. If I could get your opinion on settings I'd appreciate it. So I've recorded something and I'm getting ready to export it to a wav file. It has these settings like bit rate, depth, etc. In your opinion what settings do you feel produce the best results? Thanks John

That depends on what you want to do with the exported file. SONAR allows you to export to a number of different formats including WAV, MP3, etc. If you plan to burn your audio to CD, then you should use the following settings... 16-bit, 44100 sampling rate, stereo. If you recorded your project at anything higher than 16-bit, you should also set the Dither parameter to one of the Pow-r settings.

Yea, it depends on what your target media is. If its CD, then you need to select 16bit and 44.1kHz, as that is CD standard.
Usually all exports are going to be going to 16bit 44.1khz, because form there you can burn to a CD and you can also convert to an MP3.

As for the source of the export, either main outs or entire mix should be selected, if you want your entire project included in the export.

Sounds good. Thanks for the input. I've got an audio interface that is 24 bit/19x something. I'm presuming that's for better sound quality? What application would that work for if CD is 16 bit 44.1? Thanks again. John

Doing your initial recording using 24-bit, 48kHz is a good idea because it gives you better quality during the processes of editing and mixing. However, you still need to export at 16-bit, 44.1kHz if you're going to put your audio on an audio CD.

So work at 24-bit, 48kHz and then export at 16-bit, 44.1kHz for CD.

I like the Pow-r 3 setting for dithering.

POWr3 is the noisiest of the 3 POW dithers and most cpu intensive. POWr3 is great for rock and metal music in my opinion. For a cleaner type of genre, I wouldnt use POWr3

    Hi johnycee7,

I'd say if you are going to export a wave file, export it at the settings that you recorded it.

Then if you want to creat  a CD, the utilities will do automatic rate conversions..If your wave already matches the target, then no conversion would be applied.

If you save the wave at the settings that it was recordeda at, you insure the best possible identity, seems to me.

Songs I've produced with Sonar LE: http://www.soundclick.com...ult.cfm?bandID=1086857
