External Insert Plugin - Delay Compensation not working

I am using the External Insert Plugin on the Master Bus with my API 2500. The delay compensation window shows:
*0mS, 0 samples

When I click (left, double or right click) on this window nothing happens. I am using version Sonar Producer X1d.

Any suggestions for what I may be doing wrong? I do not see where the routing within my RME Fireface 800 is not closed so as to allow for a ping time calculation. I have the audio going out of channels 7 and 8 of the Fireface to the inputs of the API 2500, and then from the outputs of the API 2500 to channels 1 and 2 inputs of the Fireface.

Thanks.

The audio engine needs to be running for the ping to work. Look in the control bar for the "run/stop the audio engine" button, and if it's not a darker shade of blue, click it to start the audio engine. See if that lets you ping the external insert.

    Hi Eraser,
When you hit play is signal going through the 2500? Also, make sure no busses are solo'd and at least one track is routed to the bus with the E.I. plugin on it.  Every time I've had this problem it's been because I either don't have anything routed to the bus with the E.I. on it or I've had another bus or tracks going to other busses solo'd (thus causing no audio to be active on the bus). The rule with E.I. seems to be that unless the bus has active signals routed to it the latency measurement won't work.

In other news, you seem to have attracted the SLC folks to this thread...:)

Thanks for the replies Steve and Dean.

I tried the first suggestion (making sure the audio engine is running) and that did the trick. Thank you Steve.

One other question: Should I have the compressor in bypass mode when Sonar is calculating the ping time, or set up as I will be using it on the tracks with the compressor engaged?

    Thanks.

    Hi Eraser
Shouldnt matter if its bypassed or not, the compressor doesnt work in the time domain. I just leave my outboard comps engaged for the latency test.
