External USB Blue Ray Drives

I am considering getting an external USB Blue Ray drive. Mainly because I would like to be able to watch Blue Ray disks on my computers.

It looks like it may be a useful medium for archiving data in place of DVD ROM.  However cost of disks and slow burning speed look like potential pitfalls. If it’s not a practical medium for Archive I would just get a reader and save the cash.

If anyone is using USB Blue Ray I would be keen to hear your opinions.

Doesn't really seem practical for me.  What are the possibilities of hooking up a BR player to a PC? Many movies now come with the DVD version.  I still use those except I rip them as .ISO and put on a drive. I don't think I would do that with BluRay.

I've been trying to watch Blu Rays on my computers.

It always fails because it says (correctly) that my video monitor isn't connected via HDMI.

My monitors don't have HDMI connectors so that as they say is that!

Thanks, I had not intended ripping.

There don't seem to be many external drives and not much is being said recommending Blue ray as a data back up medium. It would be nice to be able to play some of my Blue ray audio disks in the studio but I may sit tight for now as i only have one or two.
