FA 66 and 1394b

Hello all, i am considering purchasing an EDIROL FA-66 but i do not have firewire connection on my MB.Is buying a 1394 card and plugging it in a sensible option?I notice these days they are not making MB's with 1394 on them anymore. Also, will i benifit from 1394b with the FA-66 or will it make no difference.I only have 24 hours to make a descision so any prompt replies from anyone in the know would be much appreciated.

regards,
Tekkas.

In the perfect world you will have no problem at all. I however, purchased a mobo that has 1394 and PCI slots because of firewire soundcard and UAD 1. I have owned an F66 and it worked fine. One problem is that I also bought a laptop recently not ever conceiving that it wouldn't have firewire but it didn't. I went and bought a pcexpress firewire card and couldn't get the MOTU to run with it. I then bought a USB audio interfce and problems with it as well. So, I can't guarantee that with 64bit Windows7 that all will be flawless.
I'm sure that wasn't a tremendous help. I would suggest going to a store that will give you a week to trythe machine out.

First, motherboards are most definitely (still) being made with onboard Firewire controllers.
ie: You can find brand new P67 and H67 motherboards that have onboard Firewire.

A good PCI/e TI chipset Firewire controller would work just fine.

    There's no benefit in using a FW800 controller for a FW400 device.
