FANTASTIC DAW SOFTWARE.

I have been producing music for approx seven years and can't praise this DAW software package highly enough. I've tried many of the others but each time keep coming back to Sonar Professional because it is so user friendly and does exactly what I need. If anyone is reading this and wondering whether to purchase Sonar, I have just set up a website www.malcolmfhill.online and ALL the music featured on the site has been mixed and recorded using the Sonar Professional DAW software. Have a listen and see what can be achieved. I hope this will encourage others to "give it a go". Very best wishes and a huge thankyou to Sonar.

I agree with you, although it took some time for me to get used to skylight interface. I think my first 'DAW' or actually midi sequencer was maybe Cakewalk Apprentice, can't remember the version, but it must have been around 1991! The software came bundled with a soundblaster sound card. Very cool thing is that many of the shortcuts are still the same as back then.

    Thanks, and all the best.

Yep, Sonar has been my No 1 choice for many years. It just fits me so much better than anything else out there. I've never really understood why has always seemed to be something of an underdog in the DAW market. People (who have never really tried it) seem to have a low opinion of Sonar and I think that's something Cakewalk needs to address.

Splat, Win 10 64bit and all sorts of musical odds and sods collected over the years, but still missing a lot of my old analogue stuff I sold off years ago.

Sonar is the only DAW that I need.  It does everything that I want in a DAW. I have been using Cakewalk products for a long time and I never had a reason to look at another DAW.

Not only is Sonar a great DAW but the people on these forums are fantastic.  They share their knowledge willingly. I have learned more on these forums then I have from the docs. I greatly appreciated all of you who share their knowledge.

The reason people say the vinyl sounds better is because the music was better.

I've been using Cakewalk products since Pro Audio 6. They've added a few features and changed things a little since then. What little I know about music recording and mixing I've learned almost completely in a Cakewalk software environment and I'm pretty comfortable with it. It's pretty much the center of my work station in most instances, all though I do use it a lot in conjunction with Maschine these days. I'll often use Maschine as my ideas/brainstorming lab, and then bring things into Sonar (with Maschine as a plugin or by exporting MIDI) to flesh them out and really get into the details, and of course to do all the audio recording that's longer than sample-length. It's a great system for me, and Sonar is where it all gets pulled together. I couldn't see switching to anything else at this point.

Well, I still have a copy of Abelton Live Lite on my hard drive I've never really checked out...

It seems the OP is preaching to the choir. Its good to read these kinds of threads from time to time. Though, Sonar Platinum is 20% to 40% better then Professional.

I am using Professional, although I've signed up for Platinum.  Just haven't gotten around to loading and learning it yet.
Can you say why you think Platinum is so much better?  Thanks.

First, the 20-40% better thing is a bit of a longstanding inside joke among those of us that have been around here for a few years... actually it seems to originate from even before my time - a legendary post from 2003.

Second, with regards to version differences, the comparison chart tells all:
    https://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/Versions

In short, Drum Replacer, Vocal Sync, Theme Editor, more instruments (23 vs 19), more FX (89 vs 56), and more PC modules (11 vs 5), zoom spectrum analysis on the quadcurve, more loops and sample content.

You can see the main differences on the version comparison page.

    http://www.cakewalk.com/P...s/SONAR/Versions#start

In a nutshell, vocal sync, drum replacer, theme editor and numerous fx, instrument, and pro channel plugins. The first two I've never used, many of the fx and pro channel plugins I use all the time.

However, there are also a few differences not listed there, and you have to dig through the update history find them. Two that I know of which are very useful to me are the controller pane transform tool and the ability to create custom filter sets in the piano roll track pane.

In looking at the feature comparison between Professional and Platinum, I notice that the VX64 Vocal Strip and also the Percussion Strip are shown as only included in Platinum and not in Professional.  But I have both in my Professional edition.  Makes me wonder how many other errors there are.

There are a few heretics around but they will likely just dismiss the initial post.

While Cakewalk was not my first midi software (Dr T's being the first), I find Sonar to be the most powerful and easiest to use these days.
