We'll be handling SONAR software compatibility and testing, specifically. Roland will release the driver updates separately when they are ready.

Thanks for the prompt response. Will there definitely be drivers made available for all the hardware or will some be excluded as being "no longer supported" ?

Today A Microsoft official said he thought Windows 8 is not finished yet. This means it was a wize decision for Cakewalk to wait with official support for Windows 8.

"Today A Microsoft official said he thought Windows 8 is not finished yet. This means it was a wize decision for Cakewalk to wait with official support for Windows 8." Hahaha! What total BS (sorry!). And ummm nor is Windows 7 finished, there are patches every month ;). Yes the wise will probably wait for six months or a service pack, but those who are on XP are probably wise to bite the bullet and run upgrade to Win 8 (and ideally get a new PC with it) rather than go the Win 7 route and double their pain later (or better still, wait six months then upgrade to X2 and Windows 8 at the same time when bugs are fully ironed out with X2 AND Win 8). Those on Win 7 who want to upgrade to Win 8 should ask themselves, are there any performance issues with their system? If not what's the point of upgrading to Win 8 other than it's "shiny" or gives them a performance increase that doesn't make any difference to them?

Will there definitely be drivers made available for all the Edirol / Roland / Cakewalk hardware or will some be excluded as being "no longer supported" ?

Good point... I doubt CW has any inside word on drivers for Roland hardware. Best to pose the question directly to Roland, though I'm not sure where one would do that.

I don't really think it's unreasonable to ask Cakewalk if having purchased the new OS they want me to buy in order to to run the new Cakewalk software they want me to buy whether or not the Cakewalk hardware that I bought from Cakewalk is still going to work with the new Cakewalk software, but maybe I'm just picky. ;)

The thing is, Cakewalk really isn't a hardware company. So even if you purchased an interface through CW, that hardware wasn't created or supported by them. I guess it's sort of like purchasing a third-party app through the CW website - the location of the purchase isn't really the key factor when it comes to support. Plus, I'd imagine the drivers would work in a similar fashion with any DAW/OS combination. For example, say a user has a CW/Roland interface running on Win7 with Cubase. Cubase updates to Win8 but no drivers for the interface. Wouldn't Roland be on the hook? That's why it makes sense (IMHO) that Roland is the key in this instance - they have to support the interface on specific OS' regardless of the DAW being used.

I hear what you are saying, but in this case Cakewalk and Roland are basically different pockets in the same pair of trousers, so they will certainly have a far easier time finding out this info than I will and seeing as I need this info in order to determine whether or not I am going to purchase their new software I think it would be in their interests too if they could at least offer some assurance that currently compatable hardware will remain so, even if it is not possible to say exactly when the drivers will be released at this stage.

Ta Do you work for Cakewalk ? Who cares who I work for. The second quote IS from Cakewalk. Are you able to read it? Let me translate it for you on their behalf: go and hassle Roland (or better still be patient, and wait and see what happens).
