FM8 Instruments Disabled In Sonar

I just got the FM8 plugin and it works perfect in standalone but not in Sonar. I insert the Soft Synth NI FM8 and then try to use one of the MIDI instruments but all of them from 1-127 say <disabled> no matter which of the 8 presets I try.

I've updated Sonar and FM8 and also tried re-scanning the plugins. Anything else I can try or anyone else have this happen?

Are you selecting the presets via the "Core" browser built in to FM8, or via the Preset dropdown at the top of the UI?

I'm at work right now, so I can't verify, but:
I always select my FM8 patches via the Core browser within FM8, and it works fine. I don't think I've even tried the Preset dropdown at the top, but I can try it when I get home tonight...

If by Core browser you mean opening FM8 and browsing through all the sounds yes that works but then how do you implement selecting a sound through Sonar and editing it?

Use the "Browse" tab in FM8 instead of the preset box that Sonar gives you. I don't remember why but Sonar's preset list doesn't work with a lot of soft synths. Something to do with DirectX or something...

Ok thanks. Just a little annoying to have to add an FM8 soft synth for each MIDI sound I want to use!

That's true, but in this case it's not the reason why it's happening. FM8's preset list will read *disabled* in any host unless you have a program list active. Because FM8 uses a database with way more than 128 entries, it uses a user defined program list to make a bank of 128 presets that:
    1) allow the use of program changes, and
    2) make the selected presets appear in host menus.

See pages 125 and 126 in the FM8 manual...

ew Good information. I've used FM7-8 for a long time.....read the manual ages ago....didn't remember/know that. Thanks!

Talk is cheap; supply outweighs the demand.

Light travels faster than sound, that's why some people look bright before you hear them speak.

Jerry Jones bought the Dallas Cowboys, Andy Reid owns them!!

If you only read the FM7 manual, you wouldn't have known/remembered that anyways- FM7 used tradintional banks.
The program list idea also holds true for Absynth 4 and Massive.

Turn on the program list in FM8 (click on the icon to the left of it). The programs in the list will appear in the synth rack's program dropdown.
