FM8 synth MIDI effect
Hello I'm sort of doing Vocoder stuff with Native Instruments FM8 synth plugin and I've reached a brain blockage, I've done something similar before but obviously too long ago. What I did was: * Insert FM8 synth in a vocal audio track as an effect. * Within FM 8 UI - Point the FM8 IN source (under advanced in FM 8) to some modulator. * I can now play the vocal through the FM8 synth, and I can use my mouse to the keys on the FM 8 musical keyboard to give vocoder type effects. So the question is Now how do I set up MIDI channel 1 to this synth so I can play it on my musical keyboard rather than use my mouse (obviously I'm not using FM8 soft synth in this instance, I'm using FM8 as an effect). OR The other way would be to set up a soft synth track whereby I easily could play the FM8 synth with MIDI channel 1, however I would need to route audio into the FM8 soft synth like a side chain. I know this probably simple but... I look forward to feeling stupid later... Thanks

Have you tried re-seting your plug ins and then re-scanning? Or I may have that the wrong way round.. Try both. Are all your drivers up to date?

Yes I have done this. My drivers are up to date. This is a workflow issue, the thing at fault here is the user. This user (me) needs education.

Have you tried uninstalling X3d and re-installing, and then re-setting/ re-scanning or re-scanning/re-setting?

Have you tried not trolling. I appreciate it is Friday night and you have come back from the pub, your dodgy posts are always around this time. Don't worry I will find the answer elsewhere clearly you are trying to disrupt my thread.

Thanks Jan Yes I tried that, I had Pentagon lined up exactly the same as FM8. It seems Pentagon exposes parameters in the output dropdown of the MIDI track but FM8 does not (therefore Pentagon works, FM8 doesn't). Weird though, Ableton users apparently can get this running. I know Ableton can do things that Sonar cannot however when it comes to plugins so I'm speculating (rightly or wrongly) this is maybe a Sonar a limitation right now.

this is maybe a Sonar a limitation right now. I'm sorry, everything in SONAR is 100% perfect. (annoying isn't it?) Seriously - have a look at Ferret 4 X 4 - at the bottom http://www.eareckon.com/en/products/freebies.html I've never tried this in SONAR - but it might do what you want - as you could split an audio track and maybe use one of these outs - to input in to FM8. It's worth a try. There's another one called Polysher - which does MIDI stuff. Maybe you could wrangle something out of it? Also - try ticking or unticking the "use as a synth" box in the FM8 plugin properties? Don't forget to rescan and reset all your plugins first though...

Let us know if those tools work - I bet they will...
