FUN: VS 700 R fan noise

Here I go again...

The fan in VS 700 R is quite noisie...

Any idea on how to reduce, or cuttof, this noise? I don't want to rack mount it inside a sealed rack. Any tuned kind of acoustic absorber I can apply around the unity (inside the rack), or any other trick (like shut down the fan, kkk)?

I am not shure if this subject is worthy of a thread, but I don't feel confortable to ask this in any other thread.

I can hear it but I have it racked in a studio desk next to my PC.  Mic's are in an adjacent room that's treated so it's not an issue for me.

Mine is in the same room and was un racked and I couldnt hear it its now racked ans still no difference

I use mics in the same room

I would be woried doing any treatment to the fan could cause over heating

This is not a BIG deal... I just wondering if I can reduce the noise in my room to "near zero". I am trying to do that with my PC... In Brazil I didn't found, yet, a fanless solution to my PC. I know there is other alternatives for cooling... And I already know I can't shut down the fan inside the unitys (VS 700 and my PC), of course... kkkk

This is more like a preciosity,  a luxury, than a necessity.

I am thinking about put some acoustic panels in the internal sides of my rack (it will be a wood rack)...Maybe this could reduce the overall noise without create overheating situations...  I could try a front glass door in the rack, but I am afraid to have problems having only the back of the rack as an air circulator option.

    Thats it... Lots of speculation.

    Peace.

There is a lot of things you can do

A passive graphics card that way you have no fan on it.

I use a silverstone computer case thats tottaly silent with accoustic treatment on the inside and sound proof ases for my hard drives.

A noctura silent cpu fan cant remember the model I use but its great HUGE but great!

You can get accoustic treatment for you hardrives aswell something like this http://www.quietpc.com/gb...scontinued/silentdrive   that they just slot in to.

If thats still not enough you can get isolation cases for the full computer case to go in :)

The 700R fan noise is a bugger for sure and given the size of the case I'm surprised but there wasn't a passive cooling option selected for it but there ya go...

Mine also is in the rack and close by and there is no simple option unless you choose to acoustically isolate the rack (results in less access in the case of open racks), physically locate your 700R out of earshot (not always a great option, particularly if you actually want to use the metering or change sample rates without moving your chair) or fabricate a noise baffle. The noise baffle is pretty simple and something I may resort to here. It basically keeps the fans intended purpose intact but removes the noise. In essence a little pathway sucker....

If you are looking for info, it's the same simple concept often applied to studio air con inlets. They work brilliantly.

    Cheers.

Thanks Mully, I don't know what a noise baffle is but I can find out for sure... Thanks Norrie too, and everybody else.

The VS 700 noise is really loud, a huge oversight by Roland IMHO.

I am debating opening the 700R and replacing the fans with silent ones when my warranty runs up. I'm pretty sure they're standard fans anyway. It shouldn't be too hard, built many PC's in my time. Thise silent fans go for $10-20 each and are incredibly quiet and very efficient.

If anyone has a picture of a dismantled VS 700R, send it my way!
