FX Chain-Sonar X3

Hi!

I was messing around with Sonar X3 this morning and found something I never knew it had before.  I always saw the FX Chain in the browser, but I never used it.  When I clicked it open I saw new effects I never knew this program had before.  I tried the vocal splitter and found that this is an effect I've always wanted but never though I had it right under my nose.  Question is:Is this what they refer to as "side chain" effects?  I've heard the term "side chain compression" used on some tutorials and I always wondered what it was and how it was used.  I dragged the vocal splitter into the vocal channel strip and found that's how it's used.  I also take notice to what looks like a "chain" on the bottom of the effect consisting of various effect run through each other.  Like they say, you learn something new every day and this was a wonderful find.

Thanks;
John B.

    Hey, Zargg!
    Thanks so much for the info and the link.  I'll give it a shot sometime, but since I don't have Producer I won't be able to use that Synth they mention, but I guess I can substitute.  I get what they mean in the example about when the radio announcer's voice causes the BG music to attenuate, but where would that be practical in a music production?  I was also looking at a page in Sonar's reference guide on those audio effects.  Glad I found them.  I will be making use of some of them, for sure.

    An example is to duck the Bass and let the Bass drum cut through, or lower guitars during a solo.
