FX Teleport

Does anyone use FX Teleport here?

http://www.fx-max.com/fxt/

Just curious to see if it works as simply as the site claims. I have a powerful laptop that could be a great "DSP Farm" for my aging DAW.

Thanks.

I don't personally use it, but I know that there are several users on this board. I'm sure they'll be along soon. They've probably been teleported somewhere and making their way back right now.

I use it and it works pretty well once you get it setup properly. To be honest though, ever since I got a QuadCore, LiquidMix, and put a Powercore Express inside my DAW, I haven't had much need for the extra horsepower. I guess it depends on how many VST and VSTi instances you want to run. On the other hand if your computer is underpowered, you have an extra $99 bucks lying around for the software, and a Cat5 (or Cat6) crossover cable, you can get two computers going fairly easily and run lots of plugins on a decent computer.

    Hope that helps,
    Paul

I use it. I have a core i7, but I keep a libraries out on a network. Mainly, EWQLSO and Choirs. FXteleport works great in Sonar 6. The guy that wrote it ought to be awarded a medal or something, imo.

I have it and have used it very successfully for a number of years - as I replaced my old computers, I just kept them and I now have a three computer network. As Jungefriend said though, with the new more powerful computers, perhaps not quite so important as it used to be, but I will still keep mine and for only $90 I think it is a bargain.
It also sometimes helps if you have a plug-in that won't work for some reason on the latest specification machines (I've had this with a Nomad Factory plug in and an Audio Damage one).
I just loaded them onto one of my older spec machines, used them via Teleport and problem solved!

I have found this to be the case also. And for those that have older versions of Sonar in which multiple midi outputs aren't handled as well as in Sonar v8.3.1, you can use a VST host like FX Chainer and get some really useful functionality for routing midi channels to various outputs. You can also stack a bunch of plugins into a chain and even further reduce the load on the CPU. This even works for multiple instances of certain processor hungry plugs like convolution reverbs (Altiverb or Waves IR). Another plus I've found is that you don't have to install PACE protected plugins on your Master DAW, and you can just put the I-Lock dongle on a slave machine. Keeps things cleaner I think, although I've found alternatives to all the dongled plugins I use to use except for those dongles that have their own processors buillt in like Powercore, LiquidMix, and Pod Farm (on a Pod X3).

So all of the dongles that have there own processor built in still need to be on the host machine right?

There is no way for instance to load them onto a slave machine with Chainer/energy FX on a slave machine and then bring them into sonar on a host machine with FX teleport right?

(duende the worst purchase of my entire life will not work with my host computer sound card / lynx sound card)
