FX chains question

Hello,

I am experimenting with using FX chains so I can use my favorite VST plugins within the Pro Channel strip.  I have figured out the basics about how to do this, but one thing I am hoping to do is to have the GUI relay more meaningful values than some range of 0-100%.  For example, for an EQ plug I may want to link a knob to a frequency range and be able to see the actual frequency I am tweaking in Hz, e.g. "450", as opposed to something like "52%".  Is there any way to do this?  Thanks.

It would be a nice improvement. I don't know how to do it . The pc FX bin is new in X2.

I mostly use it to position my inserts in the pc, but I use the vst guis for information and recording automation.

I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

Me too. I think the fx bins is just a mechanism to get VST effects into PC - but I'm just using them like normal effects (not as any special combination of effects with global controls for various parameters...)

It would be cool in PC to see a "generated" thumbnail for the 3rd-party plug-in, and some programmable knobs in a module directly below it (a knob-box). For example, it would be cool if, when I want to add a Waves CLA-76 compressor, Sonar opens the compressor, and snapshots a visual of it. Then, it generates a sized thumbnail of it so that it shows up in the PC as a miniature version of the CLA-76 and appears as a thumbnail in the PC for easy viewing, although it may not be animated. From there, Sonar would generate (if I have this feature enabled) a knob-box module directly below the CLA-76 thumbnail in the PC, which is directly connected/interfaces to the CLA-76. With programmable knobs I can assign to knobs in the CLA76 to control it as if it were actually part of the PC. If I needed to see the plug-in (CLA-76) change or watch its meter, for instance, I can double-click on the CLA-76's thumbnail and control/view it directly from there.

Here's the cool part. I wouldn't want to be left programming knobs for every single CLA-76 used, so, in the knob-box module connected to it, I could save the setting as a custom template. That way, any time I add another CLA-76 to the PC of a different track, Sonar identifies the same plug-in and realizes there is a saved template for the knob-box, automatically creating the knob associations for the new CLA-76! So, I only have to program a knob-box once! Ever!

Brconflict, this is Great idea, as long is regenerating the gui image isn't a breach of intellectual property rules. Also, now that I can save pro channel configuration, I never save FX chains.

Are you referring to the old FX chains, or the new ones inside PC? Those are obviously saved along with the PC settings.

If the GUI's are proprietary to the point where they can't be sampled for a thumbnail, the fix could be to use large text of the name of the plug-in instead. In fact, that would be the same as what they do now, but the FX bin goes away in the PC, replaced by stacks of 3rd-party Text-lebeled plugins and knob-boxes, sort of how an air-traffic controller stacks aircraft in his bin. This would make them easy to select using touch, btw.

Heck yeah! Touch control of every important vst parameter! If we could tell our envelopes apart it would help.
