I prefer that in theory as well. I just find that usually it won't do what I want it to. I do know what all the buttons mean, it just doesn't seem to get me the sound that I'm after very often. EDIT: quite possibly I also just prefer the coloring those other compressors give me.

I didn't have a really good delay so I grabbed Timeless 2. I have a feeling it will have to be studied in depth to get the most out of it. Pretty deep editing options and no presets. Time will tell but for $100 I'm not going to complain. Ya, Canadians pay about $100 after exchange and fees. GLobal sales require global currency IMO.

I love DC8C, but to be honest Pro-C taught me how to use a compressor. This is a great point! The visuals are definitely a nice aid. The thing is, your audio is generally not going to be at max volume, peaking at 0 dB. Therefore, any compressor will need to be adjusted specifically for the audio. A compressor with a threshold of -5 dB and ratio of 2:1 is not going to have the same affect on one audio track as another, just due to the differences in their volume. And that's where FabFilter's compressor is handy--its waveform visualization makes it very easy to identify where the threshold is relative to the actual audio peaks, and how your compressor is affecting them. Of course, adjusting the compressor to sound the best is what ultimately matters, but it's useful to be able to see what the compressor is doing, too!

Interesting - I've always thought Fab Filter were good, but a bit pricey. I would be tempted in this sale, but how much better are they than what I've got. For the EQ'ing, Compression, and Limiting tasks I could consider them for, I use Izotope Alloy2 and Ozone 5 - are they significantly better than these by anyone's experience?

Honestly, I'd say you're covered for EQ & compression with Alloy and Ozone. Timeless2 would be my suggestion. It's pretty much the ultimate delay.

I've got Timeless 2 and I quite like Timeless 2. But IMO, a more ultimate (ultimater?) delay would be D16 Group's Sigmund. Four delay lines instead of the two in Timeless. Plus, I've seen Sigmund available for around $55 - considerably less than Timeless 2.

Thanks to both of you. I already had written off never ever ever ever buying yet another compressor. But then after watching Dan Worrall's slight of hand marketing tutorials, taking in to consideration the 40 percent discount, and then noting your slam dunk comments revealing that this was the compressor of all compressors to finally learn how to use a compressor, I wilted and spent all of my "Memorial Day discounts on plug-ins" budget. Well, I set aside $79 also for Addictive Drums 2. I honestly appreciated your comments above about Pro-C not only performing, but instructing. I needed that comment to take a deeper look at it and it became a slam dunk for me as well.
Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

Buying a plug in was just the start. What a weird system they have. Today I logged into my FF account and there's a list of plugs with special prices and discounts. The amount each plug is discounted is based on what you buy and how many you buy at once. I can get discounts up to 70% !!!!!!!
I needed a delay, but now what to do??? The multi band comp looks good as does Pro C, but I've got a bunch of compressors. Is a deal, a deal, even if you don't need it? I have until the 24th to decide. If you're a new FF user like me, go back and check your account in case there's more you want.

Yep, after I got "Timeless" I was made this offer. I almost got "Simpleton" and "Micro", but held off on it.
